A Denver grandmother who recently took her own life was under investigation for giving her 3-year-old grandson a marijuana cookie.
Family members say 44-year-old Erin Marcove gave the toddler at least one peanut butter cookie made with cannabis butter on Dec. 4. The next day, she had trouble rousing the boy and called an ambulance.
A week later, relatives told KMGH-TV the grandmother took her own life. Marcove was an advocate for medical marijuana and had used the drug for chronic back pain most of her life.
Police seized a jar of cannabis butter at her home, and a police report showed the little boy had the drug in his system when he was taken to the hospital. The child has fully recovered.
TARIN KOWT, Afghanistan - The girl without ears or a nose arrived at the base Aug. 30.
Her wounds were fresh, the bloody punishment for fleeing an abusive marriage.
Doctors here could not do much for Bebe Aysha other than clean her wounds, numb the pain and find her a home.
Capt. Erin Stibral, an 82nd Airborne Division physician's assistant, worked extensively with Bebe during the three months she stayed at the NATO clinic. Stibral remembers her unsettling first meeting with the girl, who looked no older than 16.
"Just to see that, it was hard to comprehend how anyone could do that to another human," she said.
Giselle Assifi, a translator on Stibral's team, heard the story straight from Bebe's lips.
This is Assifi's account of what happened:
About five years ago, Bebe was sold like many young girls into a marriage.
Her husband belonged to the Taliban and often wasn't home. His family kept Bebe locked in her room and regularly beat her.
Sick of the abuse, Bebe ran away to a neighbor's house. The police arrested her there. Running away from one's husband is a serious crime in this culture.
Bebe was taken to a prison in Kandahar for four months. Bebe's father found her and delivered her back to her husband.
Bebe's husband, along with his father and two uncles, carried the rebellious girl to a mountainside. There, they beat her before the knife came out.
They carved off her nose and ears, a sadistic sort of scarlet letter to symbolize the shame she brought her family and her village.
Bebe walked from the mountainside to her father's home. He took her to a hospital in Tarin Kowt, and she ended up with the NATO doctors.
Assifi, the translator, said she asked Bebe's father why he took her back to the abusive family. He told her his daughter was a handful and a shame, and he couldn't keep her. He was always seeking money when he visited his daughter at the clinic, she said.
Bebe was like a wild animal when she first arrived at the clinic. She made the sound of cattle in distress when anyone tried to touch her, Assifi said.
She had never seen running water before, so the shower terrified her.
"She thought it was a snake coming on to her," Assifi said.
At the end of November, a shelter in Kabul accepted Bebe. Doctors at the base are trying to find a hospital in the United States that will take her case for free and try to reconstruct her face.
Assifi said Bebe's fate isn't accepted by everyone in Afghanistan. She said she had seen Afghan men crying when Bebe walked by.
"It is not common," Assifi said, "but she is not the first one, and she won't be the last one."
Tiger Woods, 33, was unconscious after he struck a fire hydrant and a neighbor's tree about 2:30 Friday morning.
The wife of the world's No.1 golfer Tiger Woods used one of his tools -- a golf club -- to smash open a window of his crashed SUV and then pulled him out of the damaged vehicle after an early-morning accident Friday outside their Isleworth mansion.
By the time a Windermere police officer arrived about 2:25 a.m., Elin Nordegren Woods had dragged her husband out of his 2009 Cadillac Escalade. He was lying on the ground, dazed and bleeding from his lips and with blood in his mouth, Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn said.
The crash knocked Tiger Woods, 33, unconscious for about six minutes, according to a call report compiled by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. Bruhn said the golfer faded in and out of consciousness.
Windermere police Chief Daniel Saylor said that officers found Woods lying in the street with his wife hovering over him. "She was frantic, upset," Saylor said in a briefing Friday night. She told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and "came out and broke the back window with a golf club," he said, adding that the front-door windows were not broken and that "the door was probably locked."
"She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground," he said. "He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there."
Woods was conscious enough to speak, he said.
"He was mumbling but didn't say anything coherent," Saylor said.
Windermere officers administered first aid until medical personnel arrived. After treatment at the scene, Woods was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in "serious" condition, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said. On his Web site, Woods said he was treated and released at Health Central.
Saylor said his responding officers did not hear anything about an alleged argument between Woods and his wife.
"Right now we believe this is a traffic crash. We don't believe it is domestic issue," patrol spokesman Sgt. Kim Montes said.
Woods' Escalade received $5,000 to $8,000 worth of damage to the front bumper and grille, according to FHP. Its air bags did not deploy, which suggests the vehicle was traveling less than 33 mph.
Troopers from the FHP, which is investigating the crash, visited Woods' $2.4 million mansion Friday evening, Montes said. Elin Nordegren Woods told troopers her husband was sleeping and asked that they return this morning.
Neither Woods nor his wife could be reached for comment. A woman who answered the door at the home would not answer questions.
A spokesman for Tiger Woods said he was released in "good" condition Friday. Troopers do not think alcohol was a factor in the crash. They do not know whether he was wearing a seat belt.
Woods was pulling out of his driveway and onto the 6300 block of Deacon Circle when his SUV smashed into a fire hydrant at the edge of his next-door neighbor's property and scuffed a tree, Montes said.
There sure are some sicko people out there -- A man came over and
offered his services as a painter to a female putting gas in her car and left his card. She said no, but accepted his card out of kindness and got in the car. The man then got into a car driven by another gentleman.
As the lady left the service station, she saw the men following her out of the station at the same time.
Almost immediately, she started to feel dizzy and could not catch her breath. She tried to open the window and realized that the odor was on her hand; the same hand which accepted the card from the gentleman at the gas station.
She then noticed the men were immediately behind her and she felt she needed to do something at that moment. She drove into the first driveway and began to honk her horn repeatedly to ask for help.
The men drove away but the lady still felt pretty bad for several minutes after she could finally catch her breath.
Apparently, there was a substance on the card that could have seriously injured her.
This drug is called 'BURUNDANGA' and it is used by people who wish to incapacitate a victim in order to steal from or take advantage of them.
This drug is four times dangerous than the date rape drug and is transferable on simple cards.
So take heed and make sure you don't accept cards at any given time you are alone or from someone on the streets. This applies to those making house calls and slipping you a card when they offer their services.

(CNN) -- The argument that led to singer Chris Brown's arrest on felony assault charges began when his girlfriend found a text message on his cell phone from "a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with," according to a sworn police statement.
Authorities charged Brown on Thursday with felony counts of assault and making criminal threats, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
The charges are in connection with an alleged attack last month on "his girlfriend," the office said.
It identified the woman only as Robyn F., but sources close to the couple have told CNN the alleged victim was singer Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
Brown was scheduled to appear in court later Thursday.
Rihanna, 21, was allegedly attacked by Brown on February 8 on a Los Angeles street before the two were to perform at the Grammys.
Brown apologized for the incident last month.
"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," the 19-year-old said in a statement released by his spokesman. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."
A search warrant used by police to obtain cell phone records related to the case included the sworn statement by Los Angeles Police Detective DeShon Andrews in which he detailed what allegedly happened in the early morning hours of February 8. Read the affidavit (PDF)
According to the statement:
"Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.
"A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.
"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.
"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the s--t out of you when we get home! You wait and see!'"
The detective said she then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant, Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.
"Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'
"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'
"Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.
"Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.
"Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.
"Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.
"Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle ... and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.
"Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.
"She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."
SYLVA - The mother of a 7-year-old boy says her son was mauled by a dog and suffered 60 bites to his neck, throat and face and can't talk because of a punctured voice box.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Sunday that Dalton Mathis remained in critical but stable condition at Mission Hospital, where officials weren't available for further comment Sunday evening.
Jennifer Roberts says Dalton arrived home from school Thursday afternoon, dropped off his book bag and went back outside before a 100-pound Shar-Pei-chow mix attacked him. Roberts says the dog had broken free from its chain.
"The dog has never been violent before," Roberts said. "It was raised around kids. The dog just a few days ago was playing with the kids."
State Highway Patrol troopers and Jackson County sheriff's deputies tried to keep the dog contained for animal control officers before the deputies had to shoot it.
Roberts says Dalton will need several surgeries.
A mom who left her three children in the care of a homeless woman will not face any criminal charges because it did not appear she had meant to abandon them, Dallas police said this afternoon.
Ann Hester, who is also homeless, left her children in the care of a friend on Monday at the Salvation Army in the 5300 block of Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas police said.
Hester was arrested later in the day on accusations of assault on a public servant, obstruction and evading arrest, according to Dallas County court records.
When the mom did not return, the friend contacted police on Tuesday, and the children, who are all under the age of 5, were placed under the care of Child Protective Services.
Hester will not face any charges related to leaving the children since they were left with an adult, said Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a Dallas police spokeswoman.
"There does not appear to have been any criminal intent," she said.Hester remained in Dallas County Jail today in lieu of $5,500 bond.
LUMBERTON - What started with a wish made by a dying child earlier this month has snowballed into an avalanche of Christmas cards, toys and prayers for a miracle from well-wishers around Robeson County - and the world.
Damien Hammonds, a 7-year-old boy battling neuroblastoma, a terminal cancer that attacked his entire skeletal system, made a simple wish a few weeks ago. He told his grandmother that his only Christmas wish was to receive Christmas cards through the mail.
She told her church congregation at Ten Mile Center on U.S. 301, church members spread the word by mouth and on the Internet, and on the day before Christmas a napping Damien was surrounded by thousands of cards, letters, drawings, poems, toys and more from hundreds of people touched by his plight and his simple request.
A man in South Carolina heard about Damien on a Myrtle Beach radio station and found his way to the little single-wide trailer off Burns Road, bringing cards and food. Another man from a church in Sampson County contacted the family about bringing gifts for Damien and his siblings. Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey dropped by to make Damien an honorary deputy and brought Santa Claus along to provide an early Christmas for the boy.
Damien's father John said he was overwhelmed. Not counting Wednesday's mail, Damien had received between 20,000 and 25,000 cards, his father said.
"Cards have come from all across the country,'' John Hammonds said. "They have not arrived yet, but some cards have even been sent from England.
He continued, clearly struggling to control his emotions: "I can't even start to try and thank everyone who has helped with this. Please put in the story that I thought at one time I'd be able to write everyone a thank you note, but there's just too many. There is just no way I can respond to 20,000 cards. We just want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and gifts."
Teachers, staff members and students from every school in Robeson County have either hand delivered or mailed cards to Damien. Among them was Magnolia Elementary School, where Damien attended kindergarten for a time.
Hammonds said that churches, hospitals, law enforcement agencies - including the state Highway Patrol - fire departments, emergency medical units, soldiers from Fort Bragg, and others from Robeson County and beyond have contributed.
Hammonds said life has been rough for his son since he was diagnosed with the disease on June 24, 2005, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Damien endured months of treatments, including six rounds of chemotherapy, surgery to remove a tumor in his shoulder and a bone marrow transplant.
There was a brief stretch when the cancer was in remission, but by January of this year, the cancer had spread. Damien began receiving hospice care this past summer after doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
"Neuroblastoma affects everyone differently," Hammonds said. "An average of about 800 children in the U.S. each year are diagnosed with the disease. In about 15 percent of the cases it can be cured.
"It's in God's hands now. All this with the cards and all has just been a miracle. I'll never be able to thank everyone for what they've done."
One of Damien's relatives, Wanda Stewart, said she would love to see one more miracle.
"Damien would be thrilled to get a card from the president," she said. "Maybe Congessman (Mike) McIntyre or the Make-A-Wish Foundation could make that happen."

A hater is someone that is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall. They are very negative people. Nothing is ever good enough! When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters... That\'s why you have to be careful whom you share your blessings and your dreams with because some folk can\'t handle seeing you blessed... It\'s dangerous to be like somebody else...
If God wanted you to be like somebody else. He would have given you what He gave them. You don\'t know what people have gone through to get what they have... The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don\'t know my story... If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too. We\'ve all got some haters among us:
Some people don\'t like it that you can:
* Have a relationship with God
* Light up a room when you walk in
* Start your own business
* Tell a man/woman to get lost (if he/she isn\'t about the right thing)
* Raise children without both parents being around
* And not ask for a dime from Anyone
* Haters don\'t want to see you happy
* Haters don\'t want to see you succeed
* Haters don\'t want you to get the victory
Most of our haters are people that are supposed to be on our side. How do you handle the haters who you at least expect to have your guard up against?
You can handle your haters by:
1. *Knowing who you are & who your true friends are * (VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2. *Having a purpose to your life *
3. *By remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation.
* Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled. A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.
Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you. Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when
its your time to leave this earth, you want to be able to say,\' I\'ve lived mylife and fulfilled my dreams, .........I\'m ready to go HOME!
When God gives you a favor, you can tell your haters, \'don\'t look at me... Look at who is in charge of me...\' Pass
this to all of your family & friends who you know are not hating on you.
If you don\'t get it back, maybe you caught somebody out! Don\'t worry about it, it\'s not your problem, it\'s theirs.
Just pray for them, that their life can be as fulfilled as yours! Watch out for Haters.............................
BUT most of all don\'t become a HATER yourself!
If you received this from me then you are on my FRIENDS list!
\'You are no greater than the company you keep\'
