My Blog
Man, blew my whole diet today. I brought in a bag of mini-rice cakes, intending to eat just a couple and avoid the snack machine. I didn't realize until too late that I had eaten the entire bag! oh well, at least it was only about the same as two bags of regular chips. Interestingly, Burger King is the only place to leave onions off their burgers by default. Who knew?
When I bought the house I'm in now, the inspector noted the dryer vent went only to the attic, which is a fire risk. The homeowner refused to repair but offered a price cut in compensation. Since it was a simple fix, I went for it. Now I'm doing it myself and I wish I had paid someone else. The whole I had to cut in the wall to take it out of the attic is over the carport, so it's almost impossible to get to. The wires to the house are mere inches away, making it precarious and dangerous to try and do anything with the vent cover. And after all that got installed, the stupid hose I have isn't long enough. Now I have to buy more AC ventilation conduit, but to top the cake, you can't just buy 5 feet. No, it comes in a 25 foot roll. What am I going to do with the other 20 feet? Pretend I'm the robot from lost in space?
Why do grocery stores hide the powdered formula now? Who really wants to use the powdered stuff? As a father of three, I really can't stand using the powder. Sometimes we take it on trips because it's easier to store, but really, it's the last thing I would want to use if I had the choice. In the middle of the night, I could a) open a can of formula, and fed the baby b) take an open can out of the refrigerator, pour, and heat it, feed it to the baby c) put powder in, fill it with water, mix, heat, then feed the baby. And yet, stores lock the powder away at the register. I'll never understand the things some people will steal.
What are sweedish fish? I am familiar with lutefisk, but the littel red cady sweedish fish, what are they, really? They're not like gummy bears. They're not really sweedish, they're made in Canda. And I doubt they're actually made of fish. They're made by the same company as sour patch kids. I wonder if you took the sour powder and put it on sweedish fish if you'd get sour fish.
So after suffering through 40 minutes of cupcake discussion last night, one of the guys decided to go get some today. For $2 + per cupcake, you'd expect these would melt in your mouth, be the size of basketballs, and taste like cupcake-nirvana. Yeah, not exactly. I had a keylime/lemon-lime/lime-something cupcake. It was the size of a regular cupcake, maybe just a little smaller. It was too limey-flavored. I barely finished it. Someone else had grape. I tried some of the frosting, and it was like shortening mixed with children's Dimeatap. One of them we couldn't figure out the flavor, until they hit some sort of raw part, at which point we prayed it was cookie dough. So as a follow up to yesterday's blog, if you're too dumb to shut up when nobody cares, at least be right about the place!
Have you ever meet someone and you just felt the need to choke them just to make them shut up? Some people just don't know how to gracefully end a conversation. Nobody cares about muffins, or cupcakes. Say you found a new place that sells them, and when the other person is like, "oh, that's nice..." just shut up after that! Please, if you are ever in a conversation, andt he other person just stares at you, SHUT UP
Does anyone out ther have guinea pigs? I've had hamsters in the past, but never Guinea pigs. I hear they're very tame. I hear the same about gerbils to, has anyone had both and can compare? Where's a good place to get a small furry in Fayetteville? Most petstores I've been to badly mishandle their animals, though it's not obvious to the general public. My last hamster was never handled by the pet store and took a lot of training to get even remotely friendly. Then it died from pregnancy complications because it was too young to have a liter. I really want another furry though.
When did we become a nation of such entitlement? People complain if their taxes are going up, or if someone even talks about taxes going up. They're "entitled" to their money. They worked hard and earned it. Nevermind that their fathers and forefathers did the same thing, and paid their taxes without complaint. Why did we elect a president who wants to give healthcare for everyone? Why are we going to pay people's mortgages when they incured the debt, instead of letting them go through bankruptcy? The administration keeps talking about fairness, and making sure everyone is taken care of more fairly, but how is it fair to give people something when no one before them got that benefit? People need to accept responsibility for the circumstances they find themselves in and look for ways to improve it themselves, with friends and with family, churches, etc. instead of relying on government?
I run Ubuntu on my home computer, and have recently found a PSX emulator that has given me hours of fun. It was immediate to install, no configuration, unloke the Windows one I fought with for 2 hours download plugins. The only issue I have now is that City of Heroes randomly stopped working. :( And darn, there's still no tyVille client for Linux either. Maybe there'll be one soon, since there's a Mac client. It is my favourite program after all...
My wife was scheduled for an induction on 02/11/2009 at 6:30 in the morning. At 3:00 PM, there was still know one who would tell me anything new aobut why my wife couldn't be seen except that they had no room. Today at 3:00 they finally brought her in. Throught the entire process, all I could think was "my name isn't Joseph, 'no room left at the inn' is not acceptable anymore.'
Now, it's five hours later and they're just giving her the induction meds. This is about the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I can't wait to get the survey they give post birth and give them 1's. I'd take my business elsewhere, only, there's only one hospital here. What a broken opperation.
