Bristols acting head coach Mark Tainton has told Sky Sports News HQ he would like the job on a full-time basis. Tainton replaced Andy Robinson after the former England and Scotland head coach was suspended on Thursday. It follows a poor start to the season for the newly promoted side, which has seen them lose their opening nine games in all competitions. Tainton is Bristols all-time leading scorer and has previously coached at international level with Ireland as well as with Wasps and London Irish in the Aviva Premiership. As a Bristolian, of course I would like the job on the longer term, Tainton said. But Im a realist. Ive not been a head coach for a Premiership team for a long time. Robinson suspended Bristol review their coaching requirements Ive spent a number of years coaching abroad and have only been back a couple of years. Ive got good experience with the two Premiership teams I have worked with.If the job was offered to me, then of course, I would like to accept the position.Former South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer is favourite for the vacant role, with former Bath director of rugby Gary Gold also linked.A Bristol spokesman suggested that a decision on the clubs coaching structure would be made very soon. LOS ANGELES -- Martin Jones charmed NHL career just keeps getting more surreal with every save, every win and every shutout in his rapidly growing collection. Jones made 24 saves for his third shutout in five games, and the remarkable rookie led the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Dwight King and Jordan Nolan scored during another dominant night for Jones, who became the first goalie in Kings history to begin his career with six consecutive victories. Edmonton is only the latest team that couldnt solve Jones, who has allowed just five goals in his six games. Even Jones seems a bit bewildered by his phenomenal success, but hes trying to stay focused on each frustrated opponent instead of his overall accomplishments. "I want to make sure Im focused and prepared for the games, but also have some fun as well," Jones said. "My job is to work hard in practice and be ready to play when called upon." Dustin Brown added an empty-net goal for the Kings, who have won seven of eight while taking just two regulation losses in 20 games since Nov. 2 (14-2-4). Jones made a handful of stunning saves in another defence-dominated night for the Kings, whose 68 goals allowed are the fewest in the NHL. The 23-year-old undrafted rookie who seemed likely to spend a fourth year in the AHL this winter instead has the NHLs best save percentage (.972) and goals-against average (0.82) while sharing the league lead in shutouts with seven other goalies -- including teammate Ben Scrivens. "These guys have been unbelievable in front of me, the way they pick up sticks and clear the net," Jones said. "They do a great job helping me out." Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 37 shots for the last-place Oilers, who have lost four straight. Bryzgalov almost matched Jones as Los Angeles handily outshot the Oilers, but key defensive breakdowns by his young teammates cost him. "I thought we had the puck in our right skilled players hands to generate chances, and we couldnt score," Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins said. "Usually the problems with our team have been turnovers or some defensive zone lapse, but that just wassnt the case tonight.ddddddddddddquot; The Kings had to go right back to work after sweeping through eastern Canada on a four-game road trip last week, posting convincing victories on every stop of their showcase in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. Los Angeles lost Sunday in Chicago before returning to Staples Center for its third game in four nights. "I was impressed with our team tonight because of the tough haul," coach Darryl Sutter said. "Its been a tough stretch of games, tough travel back with teams waiting for us. You score the one goal and then youre fighting the whole night." The Kings got the first periods only goal when Drew Doughty stickhandled through the Edmonton end before finding King for his ninth goal. Jones denied Ryan Smyth and Nail Yakupov up close on unguarded chances in the second period. Jones then stopped Taylor Hall on a clean breakaway early in the third when Hall couldnt get a handle on the puck, and Edmonton didnt register its first shot on goal until midway through the period. "Maybe if a couple of bounces go our way and their goalie isnt as hot as he is, it would be a different game," Hall said. "I thought we showed a lot of really good things. We managed to get out of a tough circumstance a couple of times in the game." Matt Greene made an exceptional play from in front of the Oilers bench, capitalizing on a bad Edmonton change to lob a pass to Nolan for a breakaway goal, his fifth of the season. Edmonton pulled Bryzgalov after Brown took a penalty in the waning minutes, but the Kings weathered the 6-on-4 disadvantage before Brown emerged from the box at exactly the right time to skate in alone for the 400th point of his career. High-scoring right wing Ales Hemsky returned to Edmontons lineup after missing Sundays loss in Anaheim with sore ribs. NOTES: Edmonton D Corey Potter served the first half of his two-game suspension for boarding Anaheims Nick Bonino from behind on Sunday. ... Kings D Willie Mitchell missed his second straight game after getting hit by Chris Neil in Ottawa. Mitchells absence has coincided with Greenes return from a 15-game injury absence. De La Rosa lasted only 4 1-3 innings and allowed five runs in his first opening-day start. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It made sense perfect sense that New York Yankees rookie Chase Whitley pushed all the credit toward Brian McCann after earning the first win of his big league career. After all, the veteran catcher not only guided Whitley though a punchless Kansas City lineup, he also drove in three runs with a timely double in the third inning of what turned into a 4-2 victory over the Royals on Friday night. "He told me a game plan before the game and we were able to execute it," Whitley said. "Just follow whatever he has in store because that guy has everything. He does." Brian Roberts also drove in a run for the Yankees, who finally gave their young right-hander some support. Whitley (1-0) had allowed five earned runs in his first four starts, and left two of them with the lead, only for his team to saddle him with a series of no-decisions. Of course, McCann helped take care of that with his bases-loaded double. "Thats a huge hit," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Its a tough at-bat. He fouls off a lot of tough pitches, a change-up, a curveball, a real slow curveball, and he got a ball up in the zone and it turned into a double." Dellin Betances worked around a double by Alcides Escobar in the eighth, and David Robertson retired Salvador Perez with runners on first and second in the ninth to earn his 14th save. Jeremy Guthrie (2-6) wound up with the loss, once again getting very little support. Perez and Lorenzo Cain drove in the Royals runs. "I think I threw the ball all right except for the third inning when I gave up a couple of hits," Guthrie said. "I had McCann down to two strikes and couldnt finish him off. I threw a couple of pitches trying to finish him off and wasnt able to do that." Making their only scheduled visit to Kauffman Stadium, the Yankees won their second straight on the heels of a four-game losing streak. They also established some much-needed confidence as they began a 10-game trip that will take them through Seattle and Oakland. The Royaals figured they were catching a break during the four-game series by missing Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka, who pitched his way to a 2-1 win over the Athletics on Thursday.dddddddddddd Whitley made them wish they were facing the Japanese star. Mixing his fastball with an effective slider and change-up, the former 15th-round draft pick allowed five hits while striking out three without a walk in the longest start of his career. Whitley had never lasted more than five innings in the big leagues. "Yeah, tonights a big night. Were all happy for him," McCann said. "Hes worked really hard to get here, to do this." The Yankees took a 1-0 lead on a single by Roberts in the second inning, and Kansas City promptly answered when Perez followed a double by Alex Gordon with his own RBI single. New York quickly regained the lead in the third. Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner led off with singles, and Guthrie grazed Mark Teixeira on the shoulder to load the bases with one out. Thats when McCann connected for his double to left, giving the Yankees what turned out to be an insurmountable 4-1 lead. Guthrie kept the Royals in the game, retiring his final nine hitters. His weak-hitting offence even got a run back in the fifth when Cain drove in Gordon with a double. Still, it was not enough for Guthrie to avoid his sixth straight losing decision and his 11th consecutive start without a win. In the last five, the veteran right-hander has received a total of three runs of support. "We just couldnt get that big hit to come through," the Royals Billy Butler said. "We were putting some good at-bats together with no results. Those days are kind of frustrating." NOTES: Yankees SS Derek Jeter got the night off. Asked whether he felt he needed it, he replied: "I never feel like I need a day." ... The Royals traded LHP Justin Marks to Oakland for cash considerations. TORONTO - Three weeks ago DeMar DeRozan was happily taking advantage of a flawed partnership with Rudy Gay. The Raptors two leading scorers were never able to co-exist the way they hoped or the team had envisioned, but individually DeRozan was thriving, in the midst of a career season. During his brief tenure, Gays presence meant far more to his team, to DeRozan, than his sub-par production. Despite his poor shot selection and declining percentages, the former Raptors forward consistently topped the oppositions scouting report, drawing the attention of their best defender(s) and making the game a whole lot easier for his emerging sidekick. No longer Robin to Gays Batman, DeRozan has assumed the lead role and is embracing the added responsibility that comes with it. "Lately Ive been trying to do a lot of different things," DeRozan told TSN.ca last week. "Getting my teammates involved, trying to rebound, trying to get steals, do a lot of other things that keep me going that probably before I didnt used to do." "I let my shot [dictate] my game, but now I just trust my teammates. I just try to go out there and do other stuff because I know I can be a decoy with how much of the defence I draw." For all his ability and the consequential attention it would attract, Gay was never willing to be a decoy in Toronto, at least not consistently. He was too prideful, a result of the self-imposed expectations that come with a max salary in the NBA. The moment had to be his, which to him meant the shot had to be his. Opposing defences feasted on that predictability and more often than not DeRozan became the forgotten man. A career 26 per cent three-point shooter, DeRozan was firing the long-ball at a 37 per cent clip in 18 games before Gay was dealt to Sacramento earlier in the month. In his fifth season, DeRozan was averaging career-highs across the board but his growth and maturity has become most evident in the aftermath of the trade. Despite the added responsibility in 10 games since the trade, his shot attempts have not increased (17.9 per game, up from 17.7) and his scoring average has dipped just slightly (20.5 points per game from 21.4). Instead, his assists (4.5 per contest, from 2.7) and rebounding numbers (4.7, from 2.7) have gone up. The ball is moving more than it has in a long time, the team is playing together, winning together and DeRozans fingerprints are all over it. The Raptors are 9-2 when DeRozan registers four or more assists this season. "I understand a lot of teams, mostly all the teams are going to key [in on] me so I use that to my advantage and just try to get my teammates going," he said after matching a career-high with nine assists in the overtime win against Dallas on December 20th. Hes not cowering from the defensive pressure hes facing, hes also not trying to do too much. "[Teams are] showing him a lot of respect, trying to get the ball out of his hands," Dwane Casey said of the 24-year-old guard. "Hes done an excellent job of passing out of it. His scoring average will probably go down a little bit but its going to help someone else." So far, sophomore Terrence Ross has been the primary beneficiary. The Raptors second-year guard, whose playing time has increased by over 10 minutes per game since the trade, is excelling in the starting lineup alongside DeRozan on the wing. Although DeRozans three-point percentage has plummeted without Gay in the lineup - shooting 19 per cent from long distance over the last 10 games - Ross has seen his go from 34 per cent pre-trade to 48 per cent since, setting a new career-high with seven-made triples (on 11 attempts) in Saturdays win over the Knicks. "I think its helped T-Ross," Casey said, "because [teams are] double teaming [DeRozan] and leaving him open." "Im just taking what the defence gives me," added Ross, who is averaging 14.4 points in nine contests as a starter. "DeMar [has been] consistent all year, he can go out and score in different ways and it kind of opens up things for me, Kyle (Lowry), Jonas (Valanciunas) and everybody else." His shots have been reminiscent of those DeRozan got, and made consistently earlier in the campaign, many of them coming from the corner. The corner three is the most efficient shot in basketball and the 21-year-old is perfecting it. Ross ranks 11th in the NBA, knocking down 24 corner threes this season while shooting them at a 49 per cent clip. He leads the association with 16 corner threes made since December 8th, when the Gay trade was consummated, shooting a remarkable 55 per cent from that region. Ross is developing a niche, one that could see him become increasingly valuable to the Raptors attack and its all predicated on the leadership of the teams best player. "Hes just playing with confidence," DeRozan said of Ross, his protégé. "I tell him, dont go out there second guessing yourself. You have the ability to do anything on that court, you jump higher than everybody on that court, youre a great shooter, you could do so much just use it and dont worry about messing up so much. Thats what hes doing." "I know I can score, I can get up shots when I need to but I look at it like, let me use myself to get Terrence an open shot or use myself to free up Kyle or create a shot for somebody else," he continued. "Thats what its all about because I know I draw so much attention, I just use that to my benefit." Kerry Hyder Womens Jersey. -- D.A. The Iona Gaels face a daunting task, as they hit the road to challenge the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks tonight. Watch all the action unfold live on TSN2 at 8pm et/5pm pt. Iona is 1-1 on the young season, the team opening with a 73-69 loss at Cleveland State on Nov. 9, but bouncing back with a 76-55 home victory over Wofford a week later. The Gaels are preparing for the rigors of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, which for them begins at home against Marist on Dec. 4. Kansas is undefeated after two games, with its initial win coming at home over ULM, 80-63, and its second in a marquee matchup in Chicago against Duke last Tuesday, 94-83. The Jayhawks, who moved into the second spot in this weeks AP poll, have won 64 consecutive home games against non-conference foes, and the team is gearing up for what should be another highly competitive slate of Big 12 Conference bouts. KU begins league play at Oklahoma on Jan. 8, 2014. This game marks only the fourth all-time meeting between Iona and Kansas, with the Jayhawks winning two of the first three, the most recent of which took place in Kansas City back in 1988. Its only been two games, one of which resulted in a loss, but Iona is already establishing itself as a team that can boast some pretty potent scorers. Sean Armand is averaging 18.5 ppg, David Laury 17.0 ppg and Isaiah Williams 13.5 ppg, helping the squad put up 72.5 ppg despite shooting just 41.3 percent from the field. The Gaels defensive effort has been decent, with foes generating just 64 ppg in hitting their shots a mere 38.9 percent of the time. Laury led the team in the first game with 19 points, while Armand was high man in the win over Wofford with 20. In that latter contest, Williams added 19 points, and Laury finished with 15 for a club that struggled in the first half (.290 FG percentage), but turned it on after intermission (.680). Williams and Armand combined for eight 3-pointers. The Gaels easily won the rebounding battle (37-24), and used a 15-7 edge in points from the foul line to put the game away. Kansas has no shortage of talented players who can all but take over a game at the drop of the hat. Most of the spotlight has been turned on freshman sensation Andrew Wiggins, and he hasnt disappointed as he currently leads the team in scoring at 19.0 ppg. Wiggins is coming off a 22-point effort in the win over Duke, and he was also one of the top rebounders as well with eight caroms. Perry Ellis (18.0 ppg) actually paced the Jayhawks in the statement victory, scoring 24 points while also grabbing nine boards, and both Wayne Selden, Jr. (11.5 ppg) and Frank Mason made significant contributions as well, netting 15 points apiece. Kansas made good on 56.1 percent of its field goal attempts, but allowed the Blue Devils to connect on 51.7 percent of their total shots. A 39-24 edge in rebounding, along with a 27-16 advantage in points from the foul line played an integral role in the outcome for coach Bill Selfs club. Yannick Ngakoue Youth Jersey. New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - New Orleans Saints linebacker Junior Galette was arrested Monday morning on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery involving domestic violence, according to reports. Galette allegedly pushed a woman to the ground while trying to get her to leave his home in Kenner, Louisiana, according to the Times-Picayune. Terrance Banks, Galettes cousin, was also arrested on a simple battery charge. The paper reported the woman had visible injuries when police arrived on the scene. She identified herself as an assistant of Galettes who had been staying with him for about two years. Galette disputed such a relationship with the woman and described her as a dancer. The woman said she requested cab fare, after which an argument ensued. She alleges Galette pushed her twice while trying to get her out of the house. After she fell, she said both men were on her and she couldnt breathe. Galette is accused of picking up the woman to take her out of the house. The woman said she grabbed a knife to defend herself and that Galette began taping her with a cell phone. She discarded the knife and Banks picked her up and put her outside with all of her belongings, she said. When police arrived, the woman was bleeding from her right ear and had scratches on the side of her face. Peavy won the 2007 NL Cy Young Award with the Friars. Chris Heston will make his first major league start on the mound for Bochys club Sunday and has appeared in relief twice this season. The rightt-hander went 12-9 with a 3.dddddddddddd8 ERA in 28 starts at Triple-A Fresno this season. Good for this kid, Bochy said. Hes had a good year at Fresno, so well get a better look at him. I know its been awhile since hes had a lot of time on the mound, but hell get the start. The Padres have missed the playoffs in each of the past seven seasons and had won seven of nine games until the recent defeat. Dale Thayer was responsible for the runs in the eighth to take the loss and San Diego starting pitcher Eric Stults pitched well in the no-decision, charged with only a run in seven innings with five strikeouts and no walks. The biggest thing was wanting to find some consistency, Stults said. I picked up my tempo and made a mechanical fix. I tried to keep the mindset that I wanted to finish strong. San Diego will try to finish strong with Robbie Erlin on the hill Sunday and he is 4-4 with a 4.53 earned run average. Erlin is 3-0 in his last six trips to the mound and did not factor in the outcome of a 3-2 loss to Colorado on Tuesday, as he allowed two runs in four innings. Erlin, a left-hander, is winless (0-2) with a 4.50 ERA in three career starts against San Francisco. The Padres are 10-8 against the Giants this season. HOYLAKE, England -- Tiger Woods was an early arrival to the British Open with hopes of avoiding an early departure. Woods has played only two competitive rounds in the last four months because of back pain that led to surgery. Thats why he chose to get to England a day earlier than usual -- Saturday -- to get acclimated to links golf at Royal Liverpool. Its nothing like he remembers from his two-shot victory in 2006. Hoylake was brown and dusty that year, and the ball was bouncing along at such speed that Woods hit only one driver the entire week. That was on the 16th hole, and the shot wound up on the 17th fairway. He still made birdie. "The golf course is a little bit softer than what it was in 06," Woods said on Tuesday. "Ive played three practice rounds now and have had three different winds. So thats been helpful to be able to see the golf course in different conditions." As an example of the change, Woods pulled out a driver on the par-5 fifth hole with the wind in his face. His tee shot landed in the fairway. That he already has played three practice rounds has been encouraging. Woods missed the cut at Congressional in his return to competition three weeks ago, though he was pleased that he felt no pain from March 31 back surgery. He even has been to the gym twice in the last couple of days. Woods played 12 holes on Saturday and a full 18 on Sunday and Tuesday, taking a break Monday to work out and then go to the practice range. "Its one of the reasons why I came over a little earlier," he said. " I went to Geneva for a day with Rolex, but I came here a day earlier than I normally would to have an extra day in there, as well as possibly taking a day off, if need be. And it worked out." As for his goals? They havent changed. When asked what would be a reasonable result in his first major of the year, Woods replied, "First. "Thats always the case." The back surgery forced him to miss the Masters for the first time, and then the U.S. Open. The last time Woods had this much time off with so little competition before a major was in 2010 when he returned from the chaos in his personal life. He tied for fourth at the Masters. It might help that he at least has won at Royal Liverpool, even if the course has changed dramatically. Woods has changed, too. His victory eight years ago produced more raw emotion than ever for Woods. It was his first major since the death of his father, Earl, two months earlier. He sobbed on the shoulders of his caddie and then his wife. Woods now has a different caddie and he is divorced. "My life has certainly changed a lot since then," Woods said. "That was a very emotional week. As you all know, I pressed pretty hard at Augusta that year, trying to win it, because it was the last time my dad was ever going to see me play a major championship. And then I didnt play well at the (U.S.) Open -- missed the cut there miserably. And then came here and just felt at peace. I really, really played well. On Sunday, I really felt calm out there. "It was surreal at the time. Ive had a few moments like that in majors where Ive felt that way on a Sunday. And that was certainly one of them." The others were at the 1997 Masters, which he won by 12 shots; the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, which he won by 15 shots; and 2000 British Open at St. Andrews, which he won by eight shots to complete the career Grand Slam. Woods has won the career slam twice more since then, running his total to 14 majors by winning the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008 despite not having played in two months because of torn ligaments in his left knee and a double stress fracture in his left leg. He said that victory, with the odds against him, should be a reminder not to count him out. And hes not ruling out his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus and his 18 majors. Woods, who is 38, was asked if he would play well into his 40s and even his early 50s if it meant a chance to break the Nicklaus benchmark. "Hopefully, I have it done by then. But Im really looking forward to that cart," he said, referring to Champions Tour players being allowed to ride in a cart. Everything had to be just right. "Time to get that first one in," he said. After missing Clevelands first 18 games recovering from broken rib, Giambi was activated from the disabled Monday and was to make his season debut in the opener of a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Giambi was batting seventh. Indians manager Terry Francona was thrilled to have him anywhere in his lineup. "Im really glad," Francona said. "He means a lot to what we do. If he wants to hit a homer or two today, thats welcome. But having him back is real good. Hes one of the more special people that weve all been around, so to have him back fighting with us is a good thing." The 43-year-old Giambi is in his second season with the Indians, who werent sure what they were getting when they signed him to a minor league contract before the 2013 season. And although Giambi batted only .183 in 71 games, he provided invaluable leadership in Clevelands clubhouse and produced a few spine-tingling moments, none bigger than a game-ending pinch-homer on Sept. 24 that beat the Chicago White Sox. The win came during a 10-game winning streak that put the Indians in the playoffs for the first time since 2007. "That moment is what keeps me coming back," Giambi said. "You dont forget those. Those are special. What made it great was the time it happened and how hard we worked. And if that game gets away -- ... It was sppecial.dddddddddddd It gave everybody a taste of that finish, to go to the playoffs and be a part of it." With Giambi returning, Francona juggled his lineup, giving backup catcher and cleanup hitter Carlos Santana the night off. Lonnie Chisenhall started at third and batted fourth. Francona noticed Santana lunging at pitches Sunday and thought he could use a mental break. "I thought it would be good for him because hes starting to chase some balls out of the zone," he said. "I thought he was getting a little anxious. Hes always had that volatile swing, and he stays in the zone so well, but yesterday I thought he started chasing. So I thought I would give him a night to kind of take it easy." Giambis return gave Francona another offensive weapon, a needed one for a team thats struggled offensively. "Its a big, powerful lefty bat who can change the score with one swing," Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis said. "He just adds a confidence to the rest of the lineup." Giambi has become something of a big-brother figure to many of the younger Indians. After he finished dressing for batting practice, Giambi walked past Kipnis locker and reminded him that time was running short. "You got three minutes, kid," Giambi yelled to Kipnis, who said his older teammates contributions go way beyond hitting home runs. "People just feed off his positive energy and the experience he has," Kipnis said. "He just makes you feel more comfortable. Youre more relaxed knowing hes on your side. You can go to him with anything." Wholesale Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Authentic Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '

ROME, Ga. -- The Atlanta Braves are facing the possibility of losing another pitcher for the season after general manager Frank Wren said Saturday that Cory Gearrin has a serious injury to his right elbow. Wren said Braves orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde on Friday found "ligament involvement" in Gearrins elbow. Wren said the right-hander will see Dr. James Andrews next week for a second opinion and a "definite diagnosis." Clearly, the Braves have braced for bad news. "I think he has a significant injury," Wren said. It is another blow to a Braves staff that already has lost starting pitchers Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy this spring to their second Tommy John surgeries. "Weve kind of eaten through our depth," Wren said. "It looked like we were in pretty good shape coming into spring training with some guys about to get healthy and all of a sudden the next thing you know were pretty thin." Gearrin was placed on the disabled list on Saturday and left-hander Ryan Buchter was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. Gearrin, a reliever, left Tuesdays spring training game against Detroit with what was described as an elbow sprain. Wren attempted to address the injuries to Medlen and Beachy by signing Ervin Santana and Aaron Harang this month. Still, the staff will be especially thin for the start of the season as Santana continues to work into form and Mike Minor and Gavin Floyd recover from injuries. Minor, who was scheduled to pitch in an exhibition game against top Braves minor leaguers on Saturday, will open the season on the disabled list as he recovers from a sore shoulder.dddddddddddd Floyd is recovering from surgery in May to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and a torn flexor muscle in his right elbow. The Braves hope Minor and Floyd can join the rotation by late April. Santana is expected to be ready by mid-April. Gearrin was 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA and one save in 37 games with Atlanta in 2013, his first full season in the majors. He was expected to serve in a setup role for closer Craig Kimbrel. The Braves return Luis Avilan, David Carpenter, Anthony Varvaro and Jordan Walden as veteran relievers but now may have more youth than expected in the bullpen. "We always find a way to do it and get over it," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Somebody else will step up. I have the confidence in our club that theyll overcome that." Wren said Gearrins injury forced him to look for more outside help. "We have been watching very closely other moves to see if there was someone who could upgrade us or someone who could help us and we havent seen anyone we felt were better than the pitchers we have," Wren said. The Braves released veteran Freddy Garcia before signing Harang. Wren said the team was not considering re-signing Garcia. Wren said the Braves are not the only team having to adjust to injuries. "When I look around baseball theres a lot of us like this," Wren said. "Its just one of those springs and theres not a lot you can do about it." OAKLAND, Calif. -- Oakland Athletics leadoff hitter Coco Crisp tinkered with his swing for a few days and finally got the results he has been looking for. That is critical for a team trying to hang on in the AL West after owning the best record in baseball for a majority of the season. Crisp hit a tiebreaking three-run triple in the fourth inning to help Scott Kazmir earn his career-best 14th win, and the As beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Tuesday night to snap a five-game losing streak. "I havent been hitting well at all so Im trying to figure out some things to try to be successful with whatever Im dealing with," Crisp said. "These past couple of days, whatever Ive been trying to do it seems like it could work so Im trying to stick with that and see what happens." Crisp wouldnt divulge what changes he has made to his swing but it is clear he knew something had to change. Coming off a miserable road trip when he went 2-for-23, Crisp grounded out and singled before lining an 0-1 pitch from Mets starter Dillon Gee down the right field line with the bases loaded. It was Crisps third triple this season. The As, who avoided losing six consecutive games for the first time since 2012, remained a half-game behind the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West. "Its very rare that he goes through a stretch like that," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said of Crisp. "Its not like he was striking out all the time (or) taking off-balance swings. A hit like that, especially with runners in scoring position in a tight game, can do wonders for the personality." Kazmir (14-5) allowed one run and four hits in six innings. He retired nine of his final 10 batters after giving up a solo home run to Travis dArnaud leading off the fourth. New York lost its third straight. Oakland had been mired in a team-wide hitting slump before coming up with its most productive game in a week. Crisp, the As leadoff hitter who has been in and out of the lineup with lingering neck pain, provided the biggest boost with his first multi-hit game since July 8. Josh Reddick added a two-run homer, and Alberto Callaspo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly two batters before Crisps bases-clearing hit. The Mets avoided making history but couldnt snap their skid. New York had been held to four hits or fewer in its previous five games. According to stats provided to the team by Elias Sports Bureau, no club had ever done that in six straight. The Mets managed seven hits this time but it wasnt enough to prevent their second loss in three games against the As this season. Gee (4-6) gave up four runs and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings. The right-hander fell to 0-5 in his past seven starts and is winless since July 9. "He was up in the zone," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "Thats not where hes supposed to be. The balls Coco hit were because he fell behind in the count. Hes a better pitcher than hes showing." WORLD SERIES REDUX This was just the Mets second visit to Oakland since the teams played in the 1973 World Series. New York lost two of three games at the Coliseum in 2005. ON FIRE DArnauds home run was his fourth in 12 games. In 43 games since being brought up from Triple-A on June 24, he is batting .267 with eight homers, 10 doubles, 22 RBIs and 10 runs scored. TRAINERS ROOM Mets: As expected, New York placed RHP Bartolo Colon on the bereavement list following the death of his mother. RHP Gonzalez Germen was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Colons roster spot. ... RHP Jacob deGrom pitched to hitters and is on schedule to come off the DL on Friday. ... 2B Daniel Murphy was given the night off. Murphy went into the day leading the NL with 152 hits. Athletics: INF Nick Punto (hamstring) will begin to do more baseball activities in the coming days. ... OF Craig Gentry (hand) was slated to play seven innings for Triple-A Sacramento. Kyle Blanks (calf strain) was penciled in at DH. UP NEXT Mets: RHP Zach Wheeler (8-8) makes his second career start against Oakland. Wheeler allowed six runs and lasted just two innings in his only other outing against the As on June 25, the shortest start of his career. Athletics: RHP Jeff Samardzija (3-2) pitches the second half of this two-game series. He is unbeaten in five starts at the Coliseum. DeVante Parker Womens Jersey. TSNs Jack Armstrong starts the week with five quick thoughts on the injury to the season-ending injury to the Pistons Brandon Jennings, the maturation of OJ Mayo of the Bucks, Iman Shumperts potential with the Cavs, Quincy Pondexters new role with the Grizzlies and the emergence of the T-Wolves Gorgui Dieng. FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS: 1. BRANDON JENNINGS (Pistons): Im bummed out for the young man. Hes been awesome for the past four or five weeks and now, playing the best ball of his career, a freak accident leads to him tearing his Achilles. In my opinion, the Pistons would have ended up as the eighth seed in the East if he stayed healthy. Now, thats doubtful. Theres going to be lots of pressure now on DJ Augustin to produce nightly. Hes a good player, but its a lot to ask in filling in for Jennings, a guy so pivotal to their success. Its a real shame. 2. OJ MAYO (Bucks): Mayos numbers are respectable (11.3 PPG and 2.9 APG), yet I look beyond them and like even more of what I see. Hes playing with energy, really competing defensively and slowing down and trying to be a better teammate. Coach Jason Kidd is getting him to mature and buy in. I like his game right now. 3. IMAN SHUMPERT (Cavs): His offence might be a bit inconsistent, but his athleticism and perimeter defensive ability grade high in my books. If Shumpert stays within himself on the offensive end and concentrates on being a defensive stopper, hell be an impact defender for the Cavs. And you gotta have those guys. Ask Memphis with Tony Allen - they can really help you in a perimeter-dominated league. I love the three pick-ups (Shumpert, JR Smith and Timofey Mozgov) by general manager David Griffin. 4. QUINCY PONDEXTER (Pelicans): He had 14 and five last night in a big win over the Mavs. Pondexter is a sold pick-up from the Grizzlies and New Orleans might be a nice spot for him. Hell get the minutes he needs to get comfortable and hes a solid two-way player. It was a subtle move to acquire him, yet I like how he might fit here. 5. GORGUI DIENG (Timberwolves): I loved him in college at Rick Pitinos Louisville. This guy gets after it and takes no prisoners. Diengs having a solid year averaging 9.9 PPG and 8.3 RPG. Hes a very good shot-blocker and team defender. He and Andrew Wiggins are the young, bright spots for the T-Wolves and Dieng is certainly a keeper. Prado stuck his glove down with Colorados Charlie Blackmon sliding into the bag, and quickly jumped back in pain after applying the tag. Jason Taylor Youth Jersey. That is precisely what they got Sunday. The Ravens trailed at halftime and never built a comfortable lead against lowly Jacksonville, yet did just enough to squeeze out a 20-12 win to stay in the thick of the AFC playoff race.It was a rematch of last years Scotties Tournament of Hearts final. And once again, Team Homan emerged as the victor with the reigning national champions defeating Team Sweeting at the Pintys All-Star Curling Skins Game Friday night in the tournaments opening draw at The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre in beautiful Banff National Park. In total, Team Homan won four skins to earn $11,000 in prize money. Team Sweeting will take home $10,000 after winning four skins, including a draw to the button. Team Sweeting took the early lead, winning the first skin worth $2,000 in the second end following a carry-over in the first. The third end saw skip Rachel Homans slash runback go wide, and Team Sweeting would pick up another skin to boost its earnings to $3,500. Team Homan would get on the board in the 4th end, picking up their first skin worth $1,500 and sparkingg a comeback in the 5th and 6th ends.dddddddddddd A second skin in the 5th end would bolster Team Homans tally to $3,500 and tie the score. In the 6th end, Team Homan picked up their third skin - and took the lead with $6,500 going into the 7th end. The team would guarantee their spot in the final with a steal worth $4,500 in the 7th for a total of $11,000. With the game already decided, Team Sweeting would force a draw to the button in the 8th end and then put it on the pin to take the final skin worth $6,500. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- On a night when each goalie was at the top of his game, it took a video review to decide the winner. Ryan Johansen scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Johansens shot initially was ruled a rebound, but a video review showed that Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper did not touch the puck, making it a legal shootout goal. "Good job, Toronto," Johansen said, referring to the video review team in the NHL offices. "I knew I scored. I just didnt know what they were talking about at first." The shootout capped a night of brilliant goaltending from the Blue Jackets Sergei Bobrovsky and Minnesotas Kuemper. Bobrovsky, last years Vezina Trophy winner, stopped 32 of 33 shots through overtime, while Kuemper finished with 28 saves. In three games at the Xcel Energy Center, Bobrovsky is 3-0 and has allowed just four goals on 90 shots. "I dont know what it is," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "I dont know if its being in Minnesota, or if theres something in this building, (but it) certainly looks like hes comfortable playing in this building, and hes the main reason why we got two points tonight." In the shootout, Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu put Minnesota ahead 2-0, but Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu rallied the Blue Jackets with goals and Bobrovsky shut down the Wild the rest of the way to set up Johansens clincher. The Wild wrapped up a four-game homestand with a 1-0-3 record. Losing three shootouts in a week could have left a sour taste in their mouths, but coach Mike Yeo chose to focus on the positives after the game. "You lose in a shootout and it paints an ugly picture. Im actually happy with the way our guys battled in this game," said Yeo, whose team increased its lead over Dallas to five points in the race for seventh place in the Western Conference. "I thought we generated some great quality chances tonight. I thought we defended hard." On a night that featured just two regulation goals and one penalty, it took almost 40 minutes for somebody to score. Columbus finally broke through on a goal by Dalton Prout with 21.6 seconds to play in the second period. Prout took a pass from Jack Johnson at the top of the slot and fired a slap shot that deflected off Wild defenceman Jonas Brodins knee and past Kuemper. The Wild tied it 3:12 into the third period on Jason Pominvilles team-leading 25th goal. Parise chased down a loose puck behind Columbus net and slipped a pass out front to Pominville, who beat Bobrovsky on his glove side to make it 1-1. Bobrovsky kept it tied with a pair of sterling saves on Charlie Coyle and Kyle Brodziak midway through the third. Coyle jumped on a funny hop off the end boards for a clear shot that Bobrovsky turned away, and later in the same shift Brodziak deflected a blast from the point that the Columbus goalie smothered. Meanwhile, the Wilds rookie goalie kept them in the game. Kuemper denied Derek MacKenzie from point-blank range and steered away or swallowed up anything the Blue Jackets sent his way. "When youre seeing the goalie down there making saves, you dont want that to be the difference," Kuemper said. "You want to do your job as well. So you just try to go with him, stop for stop." Bobrovskys biggest save of the night might have been one that didnt even count. With just under 2 minutes left in regulation, Parise centred the puck from the left boards. Blue Jackets forward Nathan Horton broke up the pass but almost inadvertently tipped it past Bobrovsky, who had to scramble to get his right skate on the puck and keep it out of the net.
