If you want to look at the cold hard facts, the Kansas City Royals are now the only team in the Majors with a longer post-season drought than the Blue Jays. The Royals, who shrunk over the years from model franchise to annual also-rans, havent made it to the playoffs since 1985, the year they beat the Blue Jays in the American League Championship series en route to winning their one and only World Series title under the late Dick Howser. The past few years though, theyve developed a wealth of young home-grown talent, including catcher Salvador Perez, outfielders Alex Gordon and Lorenzo Cain, third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar and DH Billy Butler, not to mention outfielder Wil Meyers, who was dealt to Tampa Bay for pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis last year. The Royals are continuing their playoff push this off-season. They signed GM Dayton Moore to a two-year extension and then veteran lefty Jason Vargas to a four-year deal and this week, they traded for a needed lead-off hitter, getting Norichika Aoki from Milwaukee to play right field. The next move may be their boldest yet if they can bring back outfielder Carlos Beltran on a three-year deal. The bottom line is, even if they dont win the Central, theyd have to be a favourite for one of the two Wild Card slots, making it even more difficult for the Blue Jays to make it into the post-season. The Jays have been fairly quiet so far, non-tendering catcher J.P. Arencibia, signing catcher Dioner Navarro and then trading reliever Brad Lincoln to the Phillies for catcher Eric Kratz and lefty reliever Rob Rasmussen. Not exactly earth-shattering moves. GM Alex Anthopoulos is already dampening expectations for next weeks Winter Meetings at Orlando a bit by telling the Toronto chapter of the BBWAA that he doesnt expect to add any more than one starting pitcher from outside the organization in the off-season, when most believe they need two. I trust Alex still has a few tricks up his sleeve, but if the Jays arent aggressive enough, they could find themselves with the longest post-season drought of all at 21 years and counting after the coming season. Lone Ranger? From all reports coming out of Texas, it sounds as though Arencibia is going to wind up in Texas as the back-up catcher to Geovany Soto and maybe a part-time DH. The Texas ballpark is made to order for J.P.s power stroke, and heres hoping he can rediscover or rebuild the rest of his game. Hes too good a person to flame-out in this game so soon. On The Move? Dont rule out the possibility of the Blue Jays dealing Adam Lind next week. Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay both want free agent first baseman James Loney. But the team that doesnt get him might come a-calling about Lind. Names From the Past A few more ex-Jays in the news this week include former 2B Kelly Johnson, who is reportedly close to signing a one-year deal with the Yankees in a utility role. Eric Hinske, who won the Rookie of the Year Award as the Blue Jays third baseman in 2002, retired to become the Chicago Cubs first base coach. Finally Dave Winfield, one of the Jays World Series heroes of 1992, left his front office post with San Diego to become special advisor to Tony Clark, the new Executive Director of the Players Association. Winfield and Clark are two of the most impressive and imposing men Ive ever met, both charismatic and intelligent and just dominant in size when they enter a room with Winfield at 66" and Clark at 68". CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Reds lost a game to the weather -- a recurring problem this season -- and took a couple more steps toward getting some injured players back on the roster. The opening game of a series with the Chicago Cubs was postponed on Monday following a 57-minute delay to the first pitch. It was the eighth postponement in 12 years at Great American Ball Park. The game wasnt immediately rescheduled. Manager Bryan Price said the game wont be made up during this series. The Cubs visit for a four-game series from July 7-10. "Theres no way well make it up in this series," Price said. "The way it works out, well probably be able to make it up during that series in July before the All-Star break." Rain has been a problem in Cincinnati this season. The Reds have had one game postponed and another suspended overnight because of rain. Theyve had rain delays for four of the 10 games totalling 8 hours, 57 minutes. The teams will stay on schedule with their starters. Chicagos Jeff Samardzija will face the Reds Alfredo Simon on Tuesday night. It will be Simons first scheduled start since an unidentified woman filed a civil lawsuit against him in a Washington, D.C. court last Thursday, claiming he sexually assaulted her in a hotel one year ago. "I take him at his word that nothing happened and hes assured me that hes ready to pitch and his focus is on pitching," Price said. Simon has been one of Cincinnatis best starters while filling in for the injured Mat Latos, who had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee on Feb. 14. Simon is 3-1 with a 1.30 earned run average in four starts. Latos had a setback in his recovery from the knee problem when he developed soreness in his pitching forearm near the elbow. He has resumed playing catch and could get back to throwing off the bullpen mound later this week. "Once we get him on the mound a couple of times, then we go out there and do a simulated game and then get him into rehab games," Price said. "Hes not like starting from square one, even though hes just playing catch now. "If we dont have any setbacks, we should be able to progress pretty quickly through this rehab." Closer Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to throw to Reds batters again on Tuesday before the game. If that goes well, he could start a rehab stint in the minors. Chapman was hit on the forehead by a line drive on March 19 and had a metal plate inserted in his forehead to help fractures heal. "If everything goes well with that (on Tuesday), then we anticipate getting him out on a short rehab and then having him back with us pretty quickly," Price said. Samardzija is trying to break a streak of 11 straight starts without a win since last Aug. 30. Samardzija has pitched well -- quality starts his last eight games -- but the Cubs have scored only 21 runs while he was on the mound in the last 10 games. Last Wednesday, Samardzija left with a 5-2 lead before Arizona rallied for a 7-5 win. The Cubs havent fared well against the Reds overall. They dropped two of three at Wrigley Field this month and havent won the season series against Cincinnati since 2009. Theyre 6-16 against Cincinnati over the last two seasons and 10-28 over the last three. NOTES: Cubs RH Jake Arrieta will be activated off the DL and could start later this week. Hes been sidelined since March 21 with tightness in his pitching shoulder. RH Carlos Villanueva will move into the bullpen. ... RF Nate Schierholtz was going to get a day off. ... The Reds Skip Schumaker started a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Hes recovering from a separated left shoulder sustained during spring training. Darren Woodson Cowboys Jersey. Like a magic trick, the puck popped out behind Stalock in the San Jose net. While Sharks coach Todd McLellan decried the legality of the tiebreaking goal, the Los Angeles Kings celebrated their latest, greatest escape yet. Down 0-3 just a few days ago, the Kings squeezed through that minuscule opening and emerged in Game 7. Williams scored the go-ahead goal with 8:04 to play, and the Kings beat the Sharks 4-1 in Game 6 on Monday night, rallying all the way back from a daunting series deficit. Williams and Anze Kopitar each had two goals and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 25 saves as the Kings became just the ninth team in NHL history to force a seventh game after losing the first three. "We certainly didnt want to go away quiet," Kopitar said. "Were only thinking about one more step now. Were going to have to play our best game of the series up there." Just three teams in NHL history have rallied from an 0-3 deficit to win a series, and Los Angeles has earned a shot to join them. The winner of the California rivals third playoff meeting in four years will face the top-seeded Anaheim Ducks in the second round. After watching three Kings goals and several violent scrums in the final minutes, Los Angeles fans roared with an intensity that likely hadnt been reached since the Kings Stanley Cup run two years ago, sending their team back to the Shark Tank on Wednesday night. A tie game turned when Williams whacked home Robyn Regehrs shot at Stalock, using the opportunistic scoring sense that has made the two-time Stanley Cup champion into a clutch playoff performer. "Maybe we got a break, maybe we didnt," Williams said. "But nobody blew the whistle." San Joses bench loudly protested the call, saying the puck should have been blown dead under Stalock, but it was upheld on video review. "We got cheated," McLellan said. "Simple as that. I was told that you could see the puck laying behind his feet the whole time." McLellan said the Sharks couldnt see the puck on video review. Kings coach Darryl Sutter thought replays showed the puck was loose. Kopitar followed with two goals 1:15 apart for the Kings, who have outscored San Jose 13-4 in the last three games after San Jose dominated the first three by a combined 17-8. Stalock stopped 26 shots in his first NHL playoff start, and James Sheppard scored on a double deflection in the second period for the spiraling Sharks.dddddddddddd. After utterly dominating the first two games, San Jose has scored just one goal against Quick in the last 128:24 in the series. "In my mind, if it gets to Game 7, it doesnt matter how it gets there," Sharks forward Logan Couture said. "It gets there, and youre going for one game. We played all year for the home ice. Im sure our building is going to be loud. Weve got to turn this thing around and win that game." McLellan changed starting goalies after Stanley Cup winner Antti Niemi was pulled from each of the last two losses. McLellan took a risk on Stalock, whose NHL experience consists of 27 regular-season games and 57 minutes of scoreless relief in this series. Drew Doughty had two assists for Los Angeles, which lost the first three games of the series in discouraging fashion before rallying with resounding victories at home in Game 4 and at the Shark Tank in Game 5 on Saturday night. Doughty set up the Kings first goal with a sharp pass to Williams, who has four goals in the Kings last two home games. San Jose got a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:38 early in the second period, but the Kings killed it off. The Sharks finally tied it moments after a third fruitless power play when Sheppard deflected Justin Brauns slap shot out of midair and off Regehr. After Williams go-ahead score, Kopitar got loose on a 2-on-1 rush with Williams, who set him up perfectly. Kopitar added a power-play goal. The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the three teams to accomplish what the Kings hope to do, rallying from three games down to beat Boston in 2010 with a roster including current Kings forwards Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. The Sharks played without key defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who left Game 5 early with an upper-body injury. The Canadian Olympic gold medallist was replaced by Matt Irwin, while streaky forward Marty Havlat also was in San Joses lineup for the first time in the series, replacing Mike Brown. NOTES: Los Angeles lost D Willie Mitchell to an undisclosed injury during the second period. ... The Sharks hadnt changed their starting goalie during the playoffs since 2001, when Miikka Kiprusoff took over for Evgeni Nabokov during a series. ... Vlasic had played in all 84 possible playoff games since joining the Sharks for the 2006-07 season. ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Free agent running back Maurice Jones-Drew is coming back home to Oakland after signing a three-year contract with the Raiders on Friday. Jones-Drew returns to his native Bay Area after spending his first eight seasons with Jacksonville and starring in college at UCLA. Jones-Drew joins quarterback Matt Schaub, defensive linemen Justin Tuck and LaMarr Woodley and receiver James Jones as successful veterans brought in by general manager Reggie McKenzie this off-season who are looking for a late career spark in Oakland. "Theres a ton of talent here," Jones-Drew said. "Reggie McKenzie and his staff have done a great job of piling on guys that are coming from programs that are winning and know what it takes. Granted, most of us have chips on our shoulders, at least I feel like I got (done) wrong. ... Its something thats going to drive us and push us to that next level." The Raiders also signed two defensive linemen, bringing back Pat Sims to a one-year deal and signing former Green Bay Packer C.J. Wilson. Sims played well in his first season in Oakland with two sacks and 41 tackles while starting all 16 games. He met with other teams before staying in Oakland, according to his agent Rick Smith. Wilson spent the past four seasons with Green Bay, recording 103 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 50 games with 11 starts. Jones-Drew had 8,071 yards rushing and 68 touchdowns for Jacksonville but was hampered by injuries the past two seasons. That led the Jaguars to let him test the market in free agency after his five-year, $31 million contract expired. The Jaguars thanked Jones-Drew for his work on the field and in the community. "Maurices toughness, determination and competitive spirit on the field served as a great example to all of his teammates," the team said in a statement. "Maurice has been one of the great Jaguars and he holds several team records for touchdowns that will remain for a long time. His place in Jaguars history is firmly established and we look forward to honouring him in Jacksonville at the appropriate time in the future." After more than two weeks on the open market, Jones-Drew finally found a new home in a familiar place. Jones-Drew grew up in the East Bay town of Antioch and starred at nearby De La Salle high school. Jones-Drew still spent his offseasons in the Bay Area and looked forward to being able to keep his family in one place and that his grandmother will now be able to see him play in person more often. Jones-Drew has gotten hurt the past two seasons when playing the Raiders in Oakland. He missed the final 10 games in 2012 after injuring his left foot at the Coliseum. He strained a tendon in the same foot when playing the Raiders this past season. After ranking second in the NFL with 4,321 yards rushing in a three-year span from 2009-11, Jones-Drew has been limited to 1,217 yards in 21 games the past two seasons. He averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry last season. That has led critics to argue that Jones-Drew has lost a step at age 29 and is on the downside of his career. The Raiders are hoping good health will help Jones-Drew return to the elite form he had before the injuries. "I have a ton left in my game," Jones-Drew said. "People tend to look at running backs and say, Oh, youre 29, you dont have anything left. ... I feel like I have a ton left in the tank and I get an opportunity to show that here in Oakland." The Raiders needed help at running back after allowing Jones-Drews former backup in Jacksonville, Rashad Jennings, leave through free agency to sign with the New York Giants. Oakland did bring back injury-prone starter Darren McFadden on a one-year deal but has no other proven tailbacks on the roster. The Raiders are hoping last years sixth-round pick, Latavius Murray, can contribute after spending his entire rookie year on injured reserve. McFadden has missed 29 games over his six-year career with injuries and has averaged 3.3 yards per carry the past two seasons. Jones-Drew said he was told there will be an open competition at running back between him and McFadden. "He kind of has a leg up on me because hes been in this offence already before," Jones-Drew said. "My job is to come in and to compete to play. We both have something to prove and that will help us all out in the long run, competing and being able to push each other." The Raiders also re-signed defensive tackle Pat Sims for one year according to the players agent, and signed former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman C.J. Wilson on Friday. AP Sports Writer Mark Long in Jacksonville, Fla., contributed to this report Cris Carter Vikings Throwback Jersey. The Rays hope to stay alive for the postseason and salvage the finale of this series Sunday at Rogers Centre, where they dropped a 7-2 decision Saturday. Baseball season is just around the corner and TSN.ca has you covered for whos in, whos out and what to expect from all 30 teams. Check in every day this week for two new division previews, finishing up with Scott MacArthurs look at the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Heres what to expect out of the American League West in 2014. Houston Astros GM: Jeff Luhnow Manager: Bo Porter 2013: 54-111, fifth in AL West. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: The Astros American League debut last season wasnt exactly a sterling one. Coming over from the National League Central to the AL West, the Astros dropped a league-worst 111 games last season, the most by any team in 10 years and a franchise record, and hit the 100-loss mark for the the third-straight season. They closed the year on a 15-game losing streak. Welcome to the American League. Though the teams season was abysmal, catcher Jason Castros was not. The third-year catcher set team records for the position in home runs (18), runs (63) and slugging percentage (.485). In recognition of his season, Castro was named the teams lone All-Star. Jose Altuve continued to emerge as one of the leagues finest young middle infielders and the team was able to lock him up to a modest, $12.5 million, four-year extension last summer that included two team options. The 23-year-old Venezuelan led the Majors with 41 hits in September and finished the season with career-highs in hits and RBI. To be charitable, the Astros entire pitching staff was battered last season. The teams ace, Bud Norris, and its closer, Jose Veras, were both trade at the trade deadline in July (Norris to the Baltimore Orioles and Veras to the Detroit Tigers) and the rest of the Astros arms struggled mightily. The Houston staff and bullpen finished with a league-worst 4.79 ERA and gave up 766 earned runs, 33 more than the second-worst Milwaukee Brewers. Third-year starter Jordan Lyles, now with the Colorado Rockies after a December trade, led the rotation with a modest seven victories. This is Now: Its pretty telling of a teams offseason when the biggest news will likely have little to no impact at all on the club on the field. After bringing aboard Reid Ryan a year ago as team president, the team brought back his father, Hall of Famer Nolan, as a special assistant to owner Jim Crane in February. Obviously, Astros fans will be thrilled to have the legendary Ryan back in the fold, especially at the expense of their cross-state rival Texas Rangers, but nostalgia will only take you so far and not nearly as far the Astros need it to in 2014. Despite the acquisitions of veteran help in Dexter Fowler, Chad Qualls and Canadian Jesse Crain and a new staff ace in Scott Feldman (the teams highest-paid player at $10 million), this season has the potential to look a lot like last season. Thats not to say that there isnt young talent to be excited about for the Astros in the likes of George Springer, Delino DeShields, Jr. and Mark Appel, all of whom will likely see some Majors experience this year, but their time has not come yet or, at least, it shouldnt be expected to come yet. While the team has made strides to correct its bullpen woes, outside of Fowler, little has been done to address 2013s .673 OPS (again, a league-worst), another 100-loss season shouldnt come as a surprise. One early storyline to follow: If the Astros start the season with six-straight losses (they open with a six-game homestand with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels), they will have lost 21-consecutive games that will tie the 1988 Baltimore Orioles record for the longest streak since the turn of the 20th Century. Fun times. Whos In?: OF Dexter Fowler (trade with COL), SP Scott Feldman (three-year deal), RP Jesse Crain (one-year deal), RP Chad Qualls (two-year deal + option), RP Matt Albers (one-year deal + option), OF Jesus Guzman (trade with SD) and SP Jerome Williams (one-year contract). Whos Out?: SP Erik Bedard (signed with TB), OF Brandon Barnes, SP Jordan Lyles (traded to COL) and 1B Brent Wallace (designated for assignment; later signed with BAL). Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim GM: Jerry Dipoto Manager: Mike Scoscia 2013: 78-84, third in AL West. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: Halos owner Arte Moreno has never been shy about spending money and made the biggest free agent splash last offseason in scooping up slugger Josh Hamilton from the rival Texas Rangers. But like the Albert Pujols signing the previous winter, Hamilton failed to pay the immediate dividends expected, hitting just .250 with only 21 homers and 79 RBI. Those are fine numbers for an average-to-above average outfielder, but not ones expected from a perennial All-Star and former MVP in the handsomely paid Hamilton. He wasnt the only disappointment for a team expected to contend for the division title and even more. Injuries forced the Angels to trot out 11 different starting pitchers in 2013 and, while Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson were dependable, the rest of that rotation was not. On the bright side, Mike Trout, once again, made his case for being the best all-around player on the planet with 27 home runs, 97 RBI, a .326 average and an OPS of .988. This is Now: The good news? The chances of Pujols and Hamilton bouncing back this year are exponentially greater than the pair having another off-year. Make no mistake, though, both sluggers are aging (34 and 32, respectively) and the team knows that its window with those two is closing. The team sacrificed some power and speed in the outfield to address concerns in the infield and on the mound. In dealing Peter Bourjos, arguably the fastest player in the American League, to the St. Louis Cardinals, the team acquired the dependable bat and infield arm of David Freese, who slots into third base. The team also traded Mark Trumbo and his 34 homers and 100 RBI as part of a three-team deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox that netted young arms Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago. Skaggs has more upside of the pair, but both pitchers will be looked upon to shore up the back end of the rotation (along with Garrett Richards) that sorely needs the help. The team will also find out if outfielder Kole Calhoun is ready for prime time. Calhoun, who has looked good in a small sample size, will lead off for the club and is expected to be the everyday right fielder. Whether hes up to the task remains to be seen. Another thing: The team needs to be much better playing within the division. They were 32-44 against divisional opposition last season, including an abysmal 4-15 against the Rangers. A year after unquestionable failure, tempered hopes for 2014 belie the fact that much is still expected from this team. Whos In?: IF David Freese (trade with STL), DH Raul Ibanez (one-year deal), SP Tyler Skaggs (acquired from ARI), SP Hector Santiago (acquired from CWS) and RP Joe Smith (three-year deal) Whos Out?: OF Mark Trumbo (traded to ARI), OF Peter Bourjos (traded to STL), SP Jason Vargas (signed with KC) and SP Jerome Williams (signed with HOU) Oakland Athletics GM: Billy Beane Manager: Bob Melvin 2013: 96-66, first in AL West. Lost to Detroit in American League Divisional Series. That was Then: You would think that the Oakland As would get sick of defying the odds, but no, they went out again last season and won the AL West over the highly favoured Angels and Rangers for a second-straight year. The offence was led by Josh Donaldson, who finished fourth in AL MVP voting after an outstanding campaign that saw him hit 24 home runs and knock in 97 RBI while hitting .301 with an .883 OPS and an 8.0 WAR. Thats not to say that the team relied on Donaldson solely. The team produced the third-most runs in the AL through a balanced attack that featured major contributions from Josh Reddick, Jed Lowrie, Brandon Moss, Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes. On the mound, ace Jarrod Parker continued to eat innings (12-8, 3.97 ERA and 1.223 WHIP in 197.0 IP), while the seemingly ageless Bartolo Colon won 18 games and was named to the All-Star team eight years after his last appearance. A.J Griffin, Tommy Milone and Dan Straily rounded out what ended up being one of the best youngg staffs in all of baseball.dddddddddddd A bullpen anchored by closer Grant Balfour was arguably the best in the AL. This is Now: Injuries have ravaged the rotation and the As will have to overcome those if they have any designs on a threepeat. Parker is lost for the season, thanks to a second Tommy John surgery. Griffin has been shut down for most of spring training with elbow discomfort. New signing Scott Kazmir will be ready for Opening Day, but he, too, has been afflicted with triceps issues. With Colon moving on in free agency, the team hopes that Sonny Gray, impressive in his 10 Major League appearances, can slip seamlessly into the rotation and help shoulder the load. Milone and Straily will make up the back-end of the rotation with the likes of Jesse Chavez and Drew Pomeranz able to spot-start if need be. Even with Balfour gone to the Rays, the bullpen remains a strength and is now anchored by All-Star Jim Johnson, the ALs reigning saves leader over the past two seasons. Luke Gregerson and Fernando Abad, the other new pen additions, will also be joined by Eric OFlaherty in the summer, once his rehab for Tommy John is completed. If the As offence, mostly unchanged from last season, plays to what its capable of and its staff depth can absorb the teams pitching injuries, Oakland will be competing for another division title and another trip to the post-season in 2014. Whos In?: RP Jim Johnson (trade with BAL), SP Scott Kazmir (two-year deal), OF Craig Gentry (trade with TEX), RP Luke Gregerson (acquired from SD), RP Fernando Abad (acquired from ARI) and Nick Punto (one-year deal with club option). Whos Out?: SP Bartolo Colon (signed with SF), RP Grant Balfour (signed with TB) and OF Seth Smith. Seattle Mariners GM: Jack Zduriencik Manager: Lloyd McClendon 2013: 71-91, fourth in AL West. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: The Mariners werent very good last year, finishing below .500 for the fourth straight-time and missing the playoffs for a 12th-consecutive season. Much was riding on the youth in Seattle last year and, while their were flashes of greatness, there was nothing consistent enough to make anybody think twice about the Mariners as anything but also-rans. Former first-round pick Justin Smoak again failed to live up to potential with a dreadful year at the plate, hitting .209 in the second-half of the season. Dustin Ackley struggled with consistency, while the less said about Jesus Monteros season, the better. Still, there were signs of life from youngsters with Kyle Seager, Canadian Michael Saunders and Nick Franklin all showing why the team values the trio so highly. Veteran acquisitions were a mixed bag. Raul Ibanez and Kendrys Morales contributed offensively with the seemingly 150-year-old former leading the team with 29 RBI and the latter knocking in 80 runs. On the flip side, Mike Morse disappointed and was jettisoned to the Baltimore Orioles at the deadline and Jason Bay simply had nothing left in the tank. The team got 200-plus innings from Hishashi Iwakuma and superstar Felix Hernandez, but pitching on the whole, was suspect. The Mariners had the fifth-worst team ERA at 4.25, the fifth-most hits allowed (1467) and the fourth-most earned runs conceded (702). This is Now: The Mariners spent that Nintendo money in the offseason...a whole lot of it. The team signed the most coveted player available in Robinson Cano to a massive 10-year, $240 million deal, but that wasnt all. Closer Fernando Rodney was brought in to anchor the bullpen and former All-Star Corey Hart, who missed all of last season, was signed to a one-year deal. Hes slotted in to play right field. The question remains, even with Cano and the other additions, is this Mariners team any better equipped to compete in what should be a good AL West? New manager Lloyd McClendon has spent the last several seasons as Jim Leylands right-hand man in Detroit, so theres hope that hes learned some of the codgers tricks after what was a pretty inauspicious managerial bow with the Pittsburgh Pirates. If the teams youth can step up (including highly rated starter Taijuan Walker, who starts the season on the DL and speedy shortstop Brad Miller) with a previously absent level of consistency, Hart can return to form and the likes of Smoak and newly acquired Logan Morrison tap into their potential, the Mariners will be in the mix, but it will be tough. Whos In?: 2B Robinson Cano (10-year deal), OF Corey Hart (one-year deal), OF Logan Morrison (trade with MIA), C John Buck (one-year contract) and IF Willie Bloomquist (two-year deal). Whos Out?: OF Jason Bay (retired), OF Kendrys Morales (unsigned), Raul Ibanez (signed with LAA), RP Carter Capps (traded to MIA), SP Aaron Harang (signed with ATL), RP Oliver Perez (signed with ARI) and SP Joe Saunders (unsigned) Texas Rangers GM: Jon Daniels Manager: Ron Washington 2013: 91-72, second in AL West. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: After a horrible collapse in 2012, the Rangers found a new way to end the season on a sour note, losing an AL Wild Card tie-breaker (the 163rd game of the season) to the Tampa Bay Rays to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2009. September was once again cruel to the Rangers, as a 5-15 start to the month effectively ended their pursuit of the Athletics division lead and condemned them to the tie-breaker. Why did this happen again? While still respectable and despite the yeomans effort of Adrian Beltre, the offence suffered with the departures of Josh Hamilton and Mike Napoli. The team led the league with 808 runs in 2012, but only scored 730 last season. Losing Nelson Cruz to a 50-game PED suspension certainly didnt help those matters any. On the other side of the ball, Yu Darvish was dominant, recording 278 strikeouts, the most by any pitcher since Randy Johnson in 2012. The bullpen, anchored by the 43 saves of Joe Nathan (now departed), was also solidly reliable, but the midseason acquisition of Matt Garza did not work out as planned. This is Now: If the Rangers had questions about making up for lost run production last season, they think theyve answered them by bringing in Prince Fielder and Shin-Soo Choo. Though Fielder cost the hefty price of 2B Ian Kinsler, the Rangers hope that Fielder can take advantage of the short fence in right field. Choo, the new lead-off man, will be relied upon to help set the plate for the big first baseman and if the two combine the way that theyre capable of, the Rangers will have found a lethal combination at the top of the order. The team isnt sure with what theyll get offensively from the platoon behind the plate. With A.J. Pierzynski in Boston and Geovany Soto out for up to three months with a torn meniscus in his knee, J.P. Arencibia appears to be the man. Arencibia is coming off of one of the statistically worst seasons ever with the Toronto Blue Jays. With Kinsler gone, stud prospect Jurickson Profar gets an everyday role, but hes going to miss up to three months with a torn muscle in his shoulder. The Rangers wont start the year on the mound unscathed, either. Derek Holland is out until the summer, recovering from knee surgery. Matt Harrison is also not ready to go with a back injury. The teams impressive pitching depth allows for the likes of Matt Tepesch to step into the rotation, but questions remain. Despite the loss of Nathan, the Rangers bullpen remains formidable and, if he can regain his form prior to his injury, Neftali Perez could make for a fine closer. Whos In?: 1B Prince Fielder (trade with Detroit), OF Shin-Soo Choo (seven-year deal), C J.P. Arencibia (one-year deal), OF Michael Choice (acquired from OAK) and IF Donnie Murphy (acquired from CHC). Whos Out?: 2B Ian Kinsler (traded to DET), RP Joe Nathan (signed with DET), OF Nelson Cruz (signed with BAL), SP Matt Garza (signed with MIL), DH Lance Berkman (retired), OF Craig Gentry (traded to OAK), C A.J. Harry Kane can revitalise Tottenhams Champions League campaign, says Hugo Lloris, but Mauricio Pochettino may not risk the striker. Pochettino insists Spurs Champions League tie against Monaco on Tuesday is the clubs priority, despite his side facing Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, but he will set fitness limits on his selection. Spurs trail Monaco by four points and second-placed Bayer Leverkusen by two in Group E following successive home defeats at Wembley, and realistically must win if they are to avoid an early exit. Its clear that tomorrow is the most important game, Pochettino said. Our selection for tomorrow will be if the players that are fit or not, that can play 90 minutes or not. Dele Alli also faces a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Monaco We need to assess Harry Kane, Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli, if they can play 90 minutes and dont take any risks that can affect for the next games. We have one day less than Monaco to recover because they play Friday, we play Saturday. Today is a very important day to assess and see if the players are fully recovered to play tomorrow. Kane scored twice in Tottenhams 3-2 win over West Ham on Saturday Kane scored two goals while playing the full 90 minutes of Spurs 3-2 win against West Ham on Saturday, having not featured for England during the international break after being named in the squad by Gareth Southgate. The 23-year-old had previously made just one appearance - in the north London derby against Arsenal on November 6 - since injuring his ankle against Sunderland on September 18.And Tottenham captain Lloris believes Kane is pivotal to turning around his sides Champions League results. One thing is very important - the return of Kane, Lloris said. He is bringing a lot of positive energy as we saw against Arsenal and West Ham. He is a very important player for us. Tomorrow he is going to be decisive hopefully. Sky Sports Black Friday sale Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price! Its simple. He is one of the leaders and tomorrow is an important moment for Tottenham this season so we need all our top players at the top level. Its our responsibility tomorrow to play at that level.Monaco surprised Spurs with a counter-attacking performance that inspired a 2-1 victory in September and Pochettino admits Tottenham must guard against over-committing at the Stade Louis II.Its a game that we must win but we need to find a way how, Pochettino said.We have a good team in front, we know Monaco very well. We always want to win every game we play but its not about taking more or less risks but to be clever, follow the plan and try to win after 90 minutes.Thats our idea, our challenge. Its not about risks, its about balance in football. Hugo Lloris says there is no need to worry about his Tottenham future Lloris also eased concerns about his future at Tottenham with the France international yet to extend his current deal, which expires in 2019.There is nothing to worry about, Lloris said. MONACO -- With Mercedes looking certain to run away with the Formula One constructors championship, the promising battle between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg should provide an intriguing backdrop for the rest of the season. Rosberg is only three points behind Hamilton, the championship leader, who has won the past four races. The two go back a long way, to their days karting together. But with so little separating them in the title race, their friendship looks set to be tested. Hamilton has even questioned Rosbergs desire to win. "I come from a not-great place in Stevenage and lived on a couch in my dads apartment, and Nico grew up in Monaco with jets and hotels and boats and all these kind of things," Hamilton said. "So the hunger is different ... if I were to come here believing that Nico is hungrier than me then I might as well go home." Those comments give the first indication that Hamilton, the Formula One champion in 2008, is applying pressure on Rosberg, who is far more inexperienced with four career wins compared to Hamiltons 26. Hamilton dismissed any notion of diplomacy when he was asked his ideal result at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, replying "(me) finishing first, Fernando (Alonso) finishing second and Sebastian (Vettel) finishing third. That would be it for me. The dream result for the team would be the Mercedes cars finishing 1-2." Four-time defending champion Vettel is already 55 points behind Hamilton in fourth place, and two-time champion Alonso is in third, 51 behind Hamilton. They have one third-place finish each so far and dont look like closing the gap, so it looks like being Hamilton vs. Rosberg for the rest of the campaign. Before he joined Mercedes last season, Hamiltons final season with McLaren proved a tense one.dddddddddddd Relations with Jenson Button were strained and he was reprimanded by the team for posting confidential information on social media about McLarens telemetry in September 2012. Button said he was "disappointed" in him, but it also showed Hamilton has a ruthless streak. Even though Hamilton has won the past four races after Rosberg clinched the season-opener in Australia, he wants to dominate Rosberg more. "Even if we are a dominating team, I dont beat my teammate by 40 seconds," the 29-year-old Hamilton said. "Take the last race, it was six-tenths (of a second) between us." Hamilton has beaten Rosberg 4-1 in qualifying -- Mercedes has all the pole positions so far -- but Rosberg argues that it could swing back in his favour heading into the midseason. "Three of those qualifyings were in the wet; in the dry its 1-1 and its supposed to be dry on Saturday (in Monaco) so Im confident I can make it happen," said the 28-year-old Rosberg, who is the son of 1982 F1 champion Keke Rosberg. "Its been a tough battle up until now and I expect it to continue like that," Rosberg said. "Of course now hes had the result in a couple of races but its been very close. I just need a tiny bit to turn it around." It seems unlikely their relationship will ever become as intense as the one between Vettel and Mark Webber at Red Bull, who were known to ignore team orders when asked to let the other driver pass. "We will always have the years in karting, that kind of foundation of a long time ago," Hamilton said. "For example, I have been storing my safe in his house for several months and just took it back now, and that could always be the other way around." Mathews only needed 14 shots to net his 31, finishing 5-for-8 from behind the arc and 10-for-12 from the foul line. Wallace, Californias undisputed leader and one of the nations most complete players during non-conference play, had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals but only shot 4-for-20 from the floor. He finished with 19 points thanks in large part to free throws down the stretch. It was a big win, said Cal coach Cuonzo Martin. It was a good night. I thought our fans gave us a tremendous amount of energy. David Kravish added 21 points and 10 rebounds for Cal (11-3, 1-0 Pac-12), which had lost two straight games heading into conference play. Nigel Williams-Goss stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Washington (11-2, 0-1), losers in two in a row following an 11-0 start to the season. Robert Upshaws bid for Pac-12 sixth man of the year continued with another impressive performance, albeit in the loss. The Huskies lead reached eight points twice before halftime, but was down to 32-27 at the break. Mathews broke a 38-38 tie with a 3-pointer at 13:54 of the second half, and the Bears led the rest of the way despite never really pulling away. Williams-Goss dunk at 6:13 had the deficit down to two, and Mike Anderson could have tied the game, but his layup was off the mark on Washingtons next trip. TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay played one good period, which was enough to beat the lowly Edmonton Oilers.Ondrej Palat scored a pair of third-period goals, and the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning beat the Oilers 3-2 on Thursday night.Liked the ending ... leave it at that, Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said.Steven Stamkos also scored in his fourth straight game for the Lightning, who overtook the idle New York Islanders atop the EastIm happy so far, Palat said. Our team is in front in the standings, and thats what I want.Tampa Bay finished a run of 21 games that included a 6-0-1 record against Edmonton, Buffalo and Carolina, the NHLs worst three teams. The Lightning went 5-8-1 against other opponents during that stretch. It wasnt our best two periods, but the guys certainly came alive in the third period, said Lightning goalie Ben Bishop, who made 30 saves. Its hard to win games when you play 20 minutes, but we were able to do it.Edmonton, which has lost 14 consecutive road games, got two goals from Benoit Pouliot. He has scored the last five Oilers goals. Its not like were getting blown out every game like last year, Edmonton goalie Ben Scrivens said. Weve been playing better, but weve got to figure out its easier to play defence in the third than try to score one late.Scrivens stopped 16 shots. After Palat scored from in-close at 1:33 of the third, he made it 3-2 from the slot with 8:01 to play. It was the first time Tampa Bay has won when trailing after two periods (1-13-1)Edmonton took a 2-1 lead on Pouliots second of the game, coming on a goal-mouth scramble during a power play with 57.3 seconds left in the second period. The left wing has a four-game goal streak.Pouliot put the Oilers ahead 1-0 with a short-handed rebound goal at 13:52 of the first. The guys Im playing with now are really clicking, Pouliot said. Like tonight, we got chances and we got goals on it. Its just a matter of trying to win those games, and theyre not easy to win.Stamkos tied it 7:10 into the second on his 26th goal from the right circle. Matt Carle set it up right after serving a penalty.During a one-minute stretch late in the second, Edmontons Nail Yakupov hit the post, and Stamkos missed the net with an in-close shot and had another scoring chance blocked by defenceman Anton Lander. We had our chances in the third period, but I thought that if we buried a couple in the second where there were some Grade A (chances), the result might have been different, Oilers coach Todd Nelson said.NOTES: Tampa Bay C Tyler Johnson returned after missing one game due to a lower-body injury and had two assists. ... Stuck in a rut since coming off the disabled list, Chavez hit the first pitch he saw in the ninth inning for a run-scoring single, sending the Diamondbacks to another walk-off victory, 4-3 over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. LOS ANGELES -- Jordan Lyles got through seven innings on a night when mound opponent Josh Beckett displayed his old All-Star form for eight. Troy Tulowitzki and the rest of the Colorado Rockies did the rest against the Dodgers overworked bullpen. Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI single in the 11th inning and the Rockies got home runs from Tulowitzki and Corey Dickerson to beat Los Angeles 5-4 on Friday. Carlos Gonzalez also had an RBI during the decisive rally. "We look for Tulo and CarGo to lead us. If they dont go anywhere, we dont go anywhere," Lyles said. "So for us to be good we need them to be good. They are proven players and theyre going to give their best effort every day of the week. Talent-wise, it doesnt get much better that that combo." Adam Ottavino took over in the eighth for Lyles as a steady drizzle sent many in the crowd of 44,866 for cover. Ottavino retired the side in order before Boone Logan struck out his first two batters in the ninth -- including Matt Kemp, who was ejected by umpire Angel Hernandez for arguing a called third strike. It was Kemps seventh career ejection and the Dodgers first this season. The drizzle had turned into a downpour by the 10th. Brandon Barnes pinch-hit for reliever Rex Brothers (2-2) with one out in the 11th and doubled against Jamey Wright (1-1). Left-hander J.P. Howell entered to face the lefty-swinging Blackmon, who came in leading the majors with a .410 average. The leadoff hitter grounded a 2-2 pitch up the middle to drive in the go-ahead run after going hitless in his four previous at-bats against Beckett. Nolan Arenado followed with a single that extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games. The Rockies added another run when first baseman Adrian Gonzalez threw home on a grounder in front of the bag by Carlos Gonzalez and was too late to get Blackmon. Justin Morneau capped the rally with an RBI single against Brandon League. Brothers pitched a hitless inning and LaTroy Hawkins got three outs for his seventh save after giving up a two-run homer to Adrian Gonzalez. Kemp would have been the next batter had he not been tossed. Yasiel Puig also went deep and had an RBI single for the defending NL West champions,, who are 1-5 in extra-inning games.dddddddddddd Beckett allowed two runs and four hits with six strikeouts and no walks, after pitching five scoreless innings in each of his previous two starts. The right-hander, whose first four outings have resulted in no-decisions, hasnt won since beating the Rockies on Sept. 30, 2012, at Los Angeles. "There arent very many easy outs in that lineup, but I got some easier outs on some changeups. That was really the key to keeping them off balance," Beckett said. "Theyre a very good hitting team. Most of their guys usually feel pretty good about themselves, and they should." Beckett was 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA in eight starts last season before sitting out the final five months because of a groin strain and a subsequent bout with thoracic outlet syndrome, a nerve condition that required surgery in July. "I think this was a step in the right direction for me, personally. I wanted to show myself that I could do some things I havent done in a while, like pitching innings," Beckett said. "I mean, I havent been up and down six times in like 400 days. I dont know exactly how many. Thats just a guess." Lyles allowed two runs and six hits, striking out four and walking one. Puig, the second batter Lyles faced, hit the first pitch to centre field for his third home run. Ten of Puigs first 22 big league homers have come on the first pitch. "I dont mind when guys swing early, especially since Im a guy that does a decent job of getting guys to hit the ball on the ground," Lyles said. "I tried to make a good pitch down and away. If I threw a ball, I was fine with it. But I didnt get another chance. I left it over the plate and he put a good swing on it. Hes a strong guy who can put it into the seats." Tulowitzki drove Becketts second pitch of the second inning deep into the left-field pavilion for his fifth of the season. Two batters later, Dickerson hit a first-pitch homer to left-centre. Beckett then retired 17 of his next 18 batters. NOTES: Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw (back) threw 56 pitches over five innings in a rehab start for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga against visiting Lancaster, allowing a run and two hits with six strikeouts and a walk. The run came on a leadoff homer in the fifth. Wholesale Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Authentic Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United signed midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, the first recruit since Louis van Gaal took charge of the struggling club. The 24-year-old Herrera will join on a four-year contract after he receives an international transfer certificate. United says it triggered a buyout clause in Herreras contract. Herrera will be tasked with helping the 20-time English champions return to the Premier Leagues top four to qualify for the Champions League after finishing in seventh place last month. Uniteds dire form in the first season following Alex Fergusons retirement led to David Moyes being fired as manager. Van Gaal was hired last month, but wont take charge until completing the World Cup with the Netherlands. Ryan Giggs, who stayed on as a temporary stint in charge as assistant manager, said Herrera was signed for his "great energy and creativity." "We believe him to be one of the brightest young prospects in Spain," Giggs said. "Im looking forward to seeing him in action on our summer tour to America." MONTREAL -- It was supposed to be another quick win for light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, but Andrzej Fonfara had other plans. Stevenson was forced to go 12 full rounds and pick himself off the canvas to win for the first time in his career by the iron-jawed Fonfara as he pounded out a highly entertaining unanimous decision before 6,432 at Bell Centre on Saturday night. The Laval, Que. fighter (24-1) defended his World Boxing Council title for the third time, but it wasnt easy for the power puncher who had ended his 14 previous fights before the limit. "Fonfaras a good fighter and he was ready," said the 36-year-old Stevenson, who knocked his Polish opponent down in the first round with a left to the head and put him down again with a body shot in the fifth, only to see him get back up and keep battling. "A lot of people thought I couldnt go 12 rounds, but I finished 12 and I dominated." Some were calling it a fight of the year candidate, as the heavy underdog Fonfara stayed on his feet and kept trading blows until the final bell. Two ringside judges had it 115-110 and the other 116-109, all for Stevenson. The Canadian Press had it 115-110, giving Fonfara the fourth, eighth, ninth and 12th rounds. The southpaw Stevenson said he injured his left hand in the second round and didnt have full power the rest of the way, even if he kept using his main weapon. A shiver went through the arena in the ninth when Fonfara used two jabs and a right to knock Stevenson down, and the local favourite clinched and finessed his way through the rest of the round. He switched tactics to fight in closer to his opponent and won the next two rounds. "I wasnt worried," he said. "I was moving, clinching, being smart, but I wasnt worrying about it." Fonfara came in a highly ranked but mostly unknown light heavyweight and looked to have made a name for himself by standing up to the 2013 fighter of the year and one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport. "I proved tonight he is not Superman," said 26-year-old Fonfara, referring to Stevensons nickname. "He went down. "Stevenson was better tonight, but Ill be back. My mistake was that I should have thrown more punches and combinations. I want to train more and be a world champion in the future." Asked what he was most proud of, Fonfara said "Im proud I survived." The Fonfara bout was arranged amid controversy for Stevenson, who most expected would have a showdown with hard-hitting Russian Sergey Kovalev. The two fought together on a card in Quebec City in January, with an eye on a bout this year on the HBO specialty channel. But then Stevenson hired U.S. manager Al Haymon, who arranged the Fonfara bout on HBOs rival Showtime, with plans for a fight later this year with ring legend Bernard Hopkins. Kovalevs management has taken legal action to try to get Stevenson to honour what it said was an a done deal. Stevenson said he wants the 49-year-old Hopkins, a wily fighter who is a master of slipping punches and scoring just enough points to win. In the co-feature, middleweight David Lemieux took a step toward title contention with an impressive third-round knockout of Roberto Guerrero. Lemieux (32-2) knocked down Guerrero (26-3) in the first and second rounds. After Guerrero took a voluntary knee in the third to have his bleeding right eye cleared, Lemieux attacked and knocked him out with a right uppercut. It was the 25-year-old Montreal fighters seventh win in a row since a pair of losses in 2011 derailed his title bout hopes. And it was the fifth time in five fights the crowd-pleasing knockout artist won inside three rounds. "Im on a new chapter now," said Lemieux, saying he has renewed dedication to training towards winning a world title. The 27-year-old Guerrero, a Dominican Republic native living in Salisbury, Md., was in his second fight since losing a bid for the World Boxing Organization belt last year to Peter Quillan. A light-middleweight bout between top-10 contenders saw Jermell Charlo (24-0) of Houston dominate Charlie Belamy Ohta (24-2-1) of Japan in a 12-rounder. The five-foot-11 Charlo, who had a five-inch height advantage, was knocked down by a left-right combination early in the third and was deducted a point in the ninth for a second low blow, but still earned scores of 115-111, 118-109 and 118-109 from the judges. Eleider Alvarez (15-0), one of promoter Yvon Michels top prospects, must have thought it strange to be put in the first fight on the card, but he pulled out a workmanlike unanimous 10-round decision over Alexander Johnson (15-2). Alvarez was a knockout artist early in his career, but since he has been given a better class of opponents, he has gone the distance in three straight fights. A knockdown in the third against the left-handed Johnson gave him 97-92 scores on three judges cards for the win. Welterweight Junior Ulysse (2-0) of Montreal was impressive in his second pro bout, putting Argentinas Carlos Alberto Olivera (6-7) down twice before their scheduled four-rounder was stopped at 1:38 of the first. Philadelphia prospect Julian (J Rock) Williams (16-0-1) battered Michael Medina of Los Angeles through seven rounds before flooring him with a right in the eighth of their super-middleweight bout. ATLANTA -- Kyle Korver was concerned that the Atlanta Hawks were about to squander another chance to beat a struggling opponent. "We easily couldve hung our heads there, but we kept fighting, got some good looks and we knocked them down," he said. "The momentum switched our way, and we could just feel it. The game turned really quickly." Jeff Teague scored 19 points, Korver added 17 and the Hawks helped their playoff chances with a 105-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. With four games remaining in the regular season, Atlanta increased its lead to two games over the New York Knicks for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Avery Bradley finished with 24 points and Rajon Rondo had 19 points with 12 assists for Boston, which has lost nine straight. The Celtics dropped their 13th in a row on the road, breaking the franchise mark set during the final 13 games of 1978-79. The Hawks, who never trailed after Korver hit his second straight 3-pointer to make it 93-92 with 3:09 remaining, avoided losing at home for the second straight night to a team eliminated from playoff contention. Teague and Korver combined for 18 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals in the fourth quarter. Paul Millsap finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Elton Brand added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks, who have won four of six. Atlanta lost to Detroit on Tuesday. "We knew we had to win," Teague said. "It was a must win for us, so we came out played with a lot of intensity in the fourth quarter." Boston, which blew a 19-point, third-quarter lead and lost at Detroit in its most recent game on Saturday, couldnt hold a nine-point advantage with 5:44 remaining. "In the second half we had a big lead and we let them back in it," Rondo said. "We have to get stops, and I start with myself and turning the ball over. They turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter and took us out of our offence." The Hawks next three games are against teams ahead of them in the East, including Saturday at home against two-time defending champion Miami. Atlanta matched its biggest lead of the first half at 14 when Shelvin Mack hit a 3 to make it 49-35 at the 6:31 mark of the second. But Rondo, who sat out the loss to the Pistons to rest his surgically repaired right knee, scored seven points in the last 2:34 of the second, helping Boston cut the lead to 56-51 at halftime. Rondo had a few dazzling moments in his first game in Atlanta since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament Jan. 25, 2013, at Philips Arena. Early in the third, Jared Sullinger stole the ball from Brand under the Atlanta basket and flipped the ball to Rondo, who bounced a pass halfway up the court that led to Jeff Greens fastbreak layup and cut the lead to 56-53. About 6 minutes later, Rondo stole an inbound pass from Brand and hit a runner. He followed on the ensuing possession by driving on Teague and hitting a jumper in the lane to give Boston its first lead at 67-66. The Celtics biggest lead was nine on Rondos two free throws with 5:44 remaining. But Boston was outscored 19-3 over the next 4:31. "Our defence was what really fueled it," Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer said. "We picked up our pressure and our effort. We some turnovers and some steals that led to transition baskets, especially a couple of those transition 3s for Kyle." LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Professional poker player Dan Bilzerian is no stranger to the spotlight, but usually its for his hard-partying antics, not his card-playing acumen. In April, for example, he threw a porn actress from a roof into a pool while she was naked during an adult magazine photo shoot. She broke her foot and threatened to sue him.He wasnt charged, but video of the incident and a sarcastic letter from Bilzerians lawyer to the actresss attorney garnered heaps of attention. The letter, signed by lawyer Tom Goldstein and posted online by celebrity news website TMZ, said the actress willingly signed up for the stunt. Goldstein suggested she gather up all her belongings and prepare to give them to Bilzerian if she sued, because he would likely win. Then he will probably blow it up with a mortar in the desert, Goldstein wrote.Blowing things up in the desert is what may have landed Bilzerian in jail this week. The 34-year-old dubbed the King of Instagram after amassing millions of followers was arrested Tuesday night at Los Angeles International Airport on a Las Vegas warrant accusing him of possessing bomb-making materials.Bilzerian was released Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Jan. 9 to face two felony counts. If convicted, he could face up to 6 years in prison and a $5,000 fine for each count. His lawyer, David Chesnoff, had no comment except to say Wednesday that Bilzerian and Jeremy Guymon, who is also charged with possessing explosive materials, were looking forward to their day in court.Bilzerians popular Instagram account is consistently filled with photos of a playboy lifestyle: private jets, scantily clad women, piles of cash, guns, and Bilzerian shooting those guns in the desert. The criminal complaint ties Bilzerian to an investigation of an explosion in a remote desert area near Vegas. The Bureau of Land Management called Las Vegas police detectives Nov. 4 after the agency discovered a field of debris from an explosion on BLM land near South Las Vegas Boulevard.Las Vegas police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the investigation is ongoing and she couldnt say what evidence linked Bilzerian to the blast. Wieters led off the 10th inning with a home run off Stolmy Pimentel to give Baltimore a 6-5 victory and a doubleheader sweep Thursday night. In the opener, Steve Pearce had three hits and two RBIs in his return to the Orioles, who got a home run from Nick Markakis in a 5-1 win. The single-admission doubleheader followed consecutive rainouts Tuesday and Wednesday. The rain lingered long enough to delay the fifth inning of the opener by 21 minutes, and the start of the nightcap was stalled 46 minutes by rain. The second game lasted 3 hours, 57 minutes. By the time it ended, the clock had ticked well past midnight. "Its not a late night, its an early morning," said Orioles reliever Darren ODay, who pitched in both games. As ODay spoke, the team had 30 minutes to get ready for a trip to Minnesota for a three-game series that was to begin Friday night. "It will be a happy flight," ODay said, "so that will make it a little easier." The second game marked the season debut of Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, who had left knee surgery in October. After sitting out the opener, Machado received a warm ovation from the crowd of 28,290 before the second game and went 0 for 5. Baltimore trailed 4-0 in the nightcap before rallying with a four-run sixth. Adam Jones doubled in a run and scored on a single by Wieters before Pearce chased starter Brandon Cumpton with a double to right. Bryan Morris entered and yielded a two-run double to J.J. Hardy. Starling Marte countered with an RBI single in the seventh for Pittsburgh, but Markakis tied it in the bottom half with a solo shot off Morris. Wieters won it in the 10th with a drive to right off Pimentel (2-1) that soared just inside the foul pole. Tommy Hunter (1-0) got two outs for the win. Earlier, Baltimore ace Chris Tillman struggled through a 49-pitch first inning that could be attributed in part to a seven-day layoff. The right-hander issued three walks, two with the bases loaded, before getting three outs. Pittsburgh ended Tillmans outing in the fifth when Andrew McCutchen doubled and scored on a triple by Gaby Sanchez for a 3-0 lead. Pedro Alvarez had four hits for the Pirates, finishing a home run short of the cycle. But Pittsburgh stranded 15 and went 5 for 16 with runners in scoring pposition and lost for the 15th time in 19 games.dddddddddddd "We keep fighting and fighting, and we put ourselves in scoring position and we havent been able to cash in the way we need to," manager Clint Hurdle said. "But we keep showing up. The bats were better throughout the series. ... We had men on base throughout the game, and still looking for that big hit." The first game was all about Pearce, designated for assignment by Baltimore on April 22 and released five days later. After turning down an offer from Toronto, the first baseman was re-signed Monday after Chris Davis went on the 15-day disabled list. Pearce singled in the third, fifth and sixth innings of the opener and was solid in the field. "Stevie gave us a real lift," manager Buck Showalter said. Alvarez had two hits and an RBI for the Pirates, who stranded 13 and went 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position. The defeat ended Pittsburghs nine-game road winning streak in interleague play. Trailing 1-0 when the rain stopped play, Baltimore regrouped during the break and sent nine batters to the plate in a three-run fifth. After a single, walk and an error loaded the bases against Charlie Morton (0-4), Pearce hit an RBI single and Ryan Flaherty grounded an opposite-field, two-run single to left field. Pearce singled in a run in the sixth, and Markakis hit his first homer of the season in the seventh for a 5-1 lead. Orioles starter Bud Norris (2-2) allowed one run in 5 1-3 innings, and Hunter got the last out with runners on second and third for his seventh save. Morton started well but came unhinged after the rain delay and lost his fourth consecutive start. The right-hander permitted four runs, two earned, and seven hits in 5 1-3 innings. "I kept grooving fast balls to Steve Pearce and he kept putting good swings on them," Morton lamented. NOTES: Pittsburgh returns home to face Toronto on Friday night. ... Orioles LHP Troy Patton returned from a 25-game suspension before the second game.
